Local community/state college only accepts 15 credits of CLEP...is this typical?
#1
I spoke with someone at our local college (Pensacola State College) which is mostly a junior college with a few Bachelors degrees programs added recently.  They said they will only accept 15 credits of CLEP or other "credit by exam" courses toward an Associate of Arts degree.  Is this typical of a "mainstream" college?

Completely normal. Ours will take 30cr, but that's because the state of CA is screwed up and so many people can't graduate in 4 years because of overcrowding that the state stepped in and told them to fix it.

From what I seen over the years often I find 25% of your degree max can be credit by exam (clep, dsst, etc.). 15 credits is 25% of an associate so seems on par to lots of other schools to me. 25% of a bachelors degree would be about 30 credits.

Usually online colleges that cater to working adults to finish their have better policies for CLEP.

Most Florida public 4 year universities (UF ,FSU, and others) accept up to 45 credits of CLEP.Tallahassee Community College also accepts 45 CLEP credits.

What kind of degree do you want? Consider going to NMJC or Clovis CC online. NMJC's site says they take up to 48 credits of CLEP, AP, and challenge exams.

That's not "abnormal" but you can do better.
I would see if you can find one that allows 30 or so. The "mainstream" community college I worked for accepted 45 toward a 60 credit degree. Since each individual college gets to decide what they offer, you get to CLEP-Policy-Shop before you decide too.
