Life After Graduation(email/diploma/...)

Hey, I'm new to this forum, and this website, too bad that I didn't find it sooner.

Anyway, I've just completed all the required classes for the BA Accounting degree, through the YourPace program, and had registered for graduation during the summer I session. 

Now that I've completed the degree, I have just two questions in mind:

1. How long can we keep the access to our student email? will the email address be deleted after a certain time once graduated?
2. When will the degree be conferred? as I couldn't find any official degree conferral date on UMPI's website. I will need the transcript to register for the CPA certification.
3. Will there be any kind of virtual graduation/commencement...or that sort for our YourPace program students?

1. As far as I'm aware, you lose access to email almost immediately. If you have anything important there, back it up NOW.
2. Right now, it seems to be running 6-8 weeks after the session ends. I.E., if you graduated at the end of Summer I, it'll probably be halfway through Summer II and possibly near the start of Fall I that you'll get your diploma.
3. There is a yearly commencement that takes place in Maine. As far as I'm aware, YourPace students are allowed to submit their details and participate virtually. If budget permits, they may also travel and attend in-person. I think it'll be in Spring of 2024? Talk to YourPace staff about this.

You will have email access for about a year. There was no notice when my account was closed unfortunately so I lost a ton of stuff I was saving. 

Degree conferrals take about 6-8 weeks. You'll get an email when your degree is conferred and available from Parchment. 

Commencement happens once a year in May. There's nothing separate for YourPace students. This year there was a virtual graduation for everyone who could not attend in person. This has not been the case in the past.

@MasterShu, Welcome to the board and congrats on getting the degree completed! You're well on your way to the CPA... In addition to the answers above to your questions... What's more important actually is that you review your requirements for your state and make sure all the essentials are done, such as X credits in Accounting, X credits total in the degree requirements, X courses are required, etc (example, there was a thread mentioning there was a requirement of Accounting Info Systems for a particular state). Anyways, good luck, have fun on the remainder of your CPA journey!

Wow, that was not my experience at all. My degree was conferred in Dec 2021, and as of today I still have access to my email account.

There's a lot more students graduating today so it's taking much longer to confer degrees. There was a blip somewhere on MaineStreet that your account will automatically close after you cease being a student for 1 year.

There's a lot more students graduating today so it's taking much longer to confer degrees. There was a blip somewhere on MaineStreet that your account will automatically close after you cease being a student for 1 year.

I see, then so long as I have till the access until the graduation ceremony, I should be fine.

Exactly, we need a total of 33 acc credits for the CPA exam here in NY, and the requirement is much lighter in Maine. 

Actually I already had a BBA in Finance degree from Baruch College, but glad that I can get the requirement done within a reasonable budget.

@MasterShu, great job, accounting and finance pretty much go hand in hand, it's a good combo... you need to make sure that your state will accept the BA Accounting and you also have the 33 credits not just the 30 required for the BA Accounting major. Are there specific courses you need, such as the mentioned state the requires an Accounting Info Systems? If so, make sure to get those requirements as well covered before you finish your degree. Other than that, I don't recall anything more that is required... double check the CPA requirements of course...
