Since I ended up not testing out of everything and taking longer than I ever expected, I only fall into the "varied transcripts and broke" category. It does occur to me from time to time I could have gone to another (read "better") school; after all, I took enough online classes to meet a conventional residency requirement (I just took them at 4 schools). A lot of the alternatives I might have considered aren't "name" schools either.
I picked my classes carefully and I enjoyed having control over my degree. That seems to me another advantage of the Big 3.
