For the past week when I charge my lap top it tells me it's plugged in but not charging...does any one know why this is happening?

My daughters laptop had the same problem. I ended up getting her a new charger. It was something with the end of the old charger. It probably got stepped on and no one told me.

Probably a bad battery. If the power supply is working while plugged in to the computer, its working fine.
Bad news, the battery will probably set you back $100. If you can live without having the laptop unplugged (i.e. plugged into the wall all the time) you can wait.

Either a bad charger, or bad battery.
But usually when you have a bad battery, the pc gives you a warning message telling you to change the battery.

When my computer did that there ended up being a bad cell in the new battery i had just bought. You might want to look into your battery.

I'm not sure that's what you have. It happened when I bought a new battery and tried to charge it. If you've had that batter for a long time you might just need to replace it.

My laptop gets hot very fast...Idk why. Is it true that it needs to be on a hard surface? I always use it when it's on my bed.
Also, how many hours does the laptop last if it's fully charged?

Yes it should be on a hard surface or a surface that air can flow through. Placing the laptop directly on top of bedding is one of the worst surfaces for airflow and is probably the reason that it is having heat issues. Be very careful if your laptop has an nvidia graphics card especially if it is an hp or compaq laptop because overheating can cause catastrophic and permanent damage to the mainboard leaving you with an expensive door stop or paperweight.
