I was given all 100% the 3 times I took it. Maybe they changed their grading policy.

There is no easy way to study for the test.

My lowest mark  for the course was for proficiency  test. It lowered my overall grade by 1%. The major test was easy because I decided to study for it. Theoretically, bad grades on the proficiency and the majority tests can put one below the 72% average for passing lib495.

I've heard that info on here as well.  And wasn't sure it was the case.  I know I did get all points on ETS PP.  Did it on time. Did my best.

not long along, user "studyingfortests" shared the scaled grading score on the Proficiency Profile. Here's that thread
https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...#pid357128

Lee586, this won't help you at this point, but for benefit of random other person who might read it........

As others have said, there really isn't a good way to study or prep for the Proficiency Profile. And because it gets a scale score on LIB 495, that creates stress.  Why?
Some have pointed out that the few points difference could be a big deal for A vs A-, or even (gasp!) pass vs non pass for course if the student has not done the rest of the work in LIB495 on time or done poorly.

However, there are some things that one can do to get in the mindset of taking the ETS PP and reducing the stress of difference of what grade did I get? (3.75 vs 5 points scaled for the course as shown in link above).

How? ETS has sample questions.  Mostly the test is read the passage and answer questions based on the passage. And some pick the best option of writing.  And do some math that did not involved college algebra or calculus.
So that very small sample is not enough to calm nerves and need more practice?
ok. Maybe finding a sample ACT reading and English test (free ones exists) and doing CSM Learn (not free sorry), or something for math refresher would help get back in the mindset of these kinds of tests even if the ACT covers way more math than ETS PP.   I think it's overkill to prep this way. But still suggest it.
Check your local library system if they have online practice tests, or in print on shelves.
Scared of the idea of the ACT?   ok, Look for practice WorkKeys tests, or accuplacer.  That kind of mindset.  That kind of stuff.
Remember though the ACT is way longer that ETS PP.  ETS PP is 36 questions total and done in 40 minutes. So again, you don't have to do well on ACT.  Not the point.  I'm saying that kind of practice done in small bites can help you get back in practice of that kind of testing so you're more ready to do ETS and only IF the sample questions from ETS weren't enough to help you feel confident to do well enough.

I know nothing on major test.

Did the written communication.

and I did LIB 495 as the only course that term so I wasn't trying to do 16 credits in 12 weeks and deal with it.  Terrified of writing the long paper until I saw the assignments break it down in small doable sections with reasonable deadlines. And once I realized that answering each question in the assignment was the key to putting the sections together, it wasn't that bad to do. Never had done a power point before.  That was quick to learn to make it look better (thanks youtube people). Anxiety about talking due to a disability -- still got the 8 minute presentation done.

you can do this!

Here's the quick-and-dirty for the ETS proficiency test:

It is 5% of your total grade

Even if you completely bomb it and get  everything wrong, you still get a score of 400, which equates to 75% of the total possible score of 500.

So your grades break down this way. Let's say 1000 points total

Discussion forums     200
Written Assignents    300
Written Competence  100
ETS Proficiency           50
Complete capstone    350

So if you completely bomb the ETS you get 37.5 points instead of 50

Unless you *completely* screw up everything else, there is no possible way that the ETS proficiency test is going to affect your grade. You could lose 100 points *total* (in the above scenario) and still get an A.

In other words... don't study for it. Don't worry about it. It doesn't matter.

So do they still give out an automatic 100% score for the ETS Major Field Test/Written Communication which is worth 10% of your final grade?

The major field test is worth 10% of your grade, which can have an impact on your grade.

Normally when bureaucrats try to play games, the best thing to do is play games back at them.

What is your major? Answer: liberal studies
Ok here is your major field test for liberal studies.

One day after getting my final grade for the capstone, oh shazam, I will be a computer science major now. ROFL.

I caught you lying! Nope, I had both liberal studies and computer science on my degree plan and I was debating back and forth which degree I wanted up to the last day Wink

They play games, you play games back at them.

Switching professors, dropping/withdrawing classes, redoing assignments, and other tactics are some of the crazy things people can do to shoot for that straight-A.

To be clear, I don't recommend people do these things, I'm just saying it can be done.

Wouldn't you have the written assignment instead of the test as a liberal studies major?

Who's a Liberal Studies major? My major is Computer Science.

How tough was the Final Research Assignment for you guys? And how many pages? I'm entering the final paper and final oral assignment with an 87 overall grade. Really burned out as well.

You have both. You're confusing the major field test with the ETS proficiency profile.

*everyone* does the proficiency profile.

*certain majors* do a major field test (CS, psychology, business are three I know offhand). If you major does not include a major field test ( liberal studies is one that doesn't), you do the written assignment instead.

Major field test, if you have to take it, can impact your course grade, as it is 10% of your overall grade.

ETS proficiency profile will almost certainly not, as you get 75% credit even if you get the lowest score, and 3.75% vs 5% is not enough to make a difference unless you've really screwed up somewhere else.
