Just passed college algebra. So excited!
#1
I just had to post.

I just passed College Algebra! Whoo Hoo!

Just a little background. I am a high school/middle school social studies/English teacher. I did take math in high school all the way through calculus, but it has been a very long time. The last math class I took was during the spring of 1993. If my math is good, that is 24 years. I decided at that time that while I was decent at math, it wasn't a natural strength. I completed an undergraduate degree in education with a concentration in English and left math behind. I became a teacher and love the job. I even teach economics. Kind of funny.

Anyway, I really enjoy teaching economics and I am now working on the BSBA CIS at TESU. I realized about a week ago that I needed to complete the ALEKS courses before they possibly went away.

I started with remedial algebra class and scored a 74%. Then I tried the business stats class and scored a 41%. Eeeks. That one made me nervous. I switched to the intermediate algebra and scored 61%. Close, but no cigar. So I decided that I needed to scoot ahead to the college algebra class.

I think that I started the initial assessment late Wednesday night. I have been working slowly. I have three year old twin girls and a seven year old son. I am also president of my local teachers' association and we have just reached a tentative agreement on a contract. So I just click through to the next problem and just kind of think about it as I teach and in the negotiations and do some research on my phone.

Anyway#2, I just finished the assessment and it was 81%. I am SOOOO excited. I do feel like a section of my brain has been restarted and it is kind of fun to have a math problem rolling around in my head as I work through my day. It is also kind of nice to do college level math while the kids are watching Sofia the First.

I think that I am going to go back and try to pick off the intermediate algebra since I was so close and then spend next week on one of the stats classes. Which one is the easiest?

Have a great day!
Mike

Nice work, congrats!

I didn't do stats through ALEKS, but their stats courses seem to trip a lot of people up around here and are more of a struggle than their algebra courses. But the price is right, so it's worth the attempt. Good luck!

I'm not sure how many credits you want/need for your degree, but for me, I would like more "cheap" credits.
Furthermore, If you have the time and membership left, go for the Intermediate Algebra and then get the Stats.

And if you're really into it, you can take the Precalc OR Trig to add another 3 credits to your BSBA Gen Ed Electives.
You may want to place all your credits earned into a spreadsheet and upload it here.... or paste it into this thread.
