Jared Fogle just espoused bad eating habits. Nothing about morals. Josh Duggar did. Some of us like to call out hypocrites. Nice? No. Fun? As Gov. Palin would say, "you betcha."

No, he was just busted for child porn.

I don't know that you can say adultery=pedophile. Fogle was a grown man who preyed on children. Duggar was 14 and targeted ( to the best of my knowledge) other "kids" more or less his own age. It's all disgusting, but the cases are not equal, at least not with the info that's been put out there.

Adults seeking to hook up with other adults, married or not, don't need government oversight.

Not to be rude, but how is a 5 year old more or less the same age as a 15 year old? So if a 16 year old molests a 5 year old, that person is a pedophile; but, if a 15 year old molests a 5 year old, that person is not a pedophile?

Disgusting regardless. But I recall reading reports early on that had the ages closer together before later being updated with correct ages, so if someone only partially paid attention it would be understandable for them to not have noticed the actual ages.

What Jared Fogle did is worse than what Josh Duggar did, but I'm trying to understand the rationale behind not calling him a pedophile and not thinking he should be a registered sex offender. He committed a crime. He would have had to register as a sex offender in most states if the statute of limitations hadn't run out. Granted, some states will allow for a petition to be removed from the registry when the juvenile reaches adulthood.

Do some people not care if their neighbor has a teenage son or daughter who is a sex offender and not being made aware of it? What if you hired that teenager to babysit your children? Josh did molest a child who was being babysat after the parents knew about his fondling.

If individuals who molested other children while they were underage were forced to be labeled as pedophiles their would be millions and millions of new pedophile cases. Not defending Josh as I really don't know who he is, but what the duggers did is actually quiet normal/common. Most children who are molested are molested by other family members, in which such cases are never reported to law officials, most people are likely to report such only if its done by non-family members. This was actually a topic of discussion in one of my graduate developmental psychology courses where we have to ask ourselves where do we cross the line in regard to molestation and experimentation in regard to children which is apart of the developmental process. Because their are millions and millions of children who did what Josh did who become adults who never abuse other adults nor children sexually again.

For many of the therapists and attorneys who deal with them, these juvenile offenders pose a profoundly complicated challenge for the child-protection and criminal justice systems. It's a diverse group that defies stereotypes, encompassing a minority of youths who represent a threat of long-term danger to others and a majority who are responsive to treatment and unlikely to reoffend.

so maybe the 5 year old should be charged with statutory rape

His parents stated that after he admitted to fondling those girls he was sent to a treatment center; so I guess thats his "treatment," as I haven't read any other stories of him reoffending after he supposedly received treatment. However, most children who engage in such acts never receive treatment, as most parents sort of deal with the the issues in their home, or just look at it as children just experimenting; where such just means nothing, as they typically believe that their children really have no ideal what their really doing.

While sexual aggression may emerge early in the developmental process, there is no compelling evidence to suggest that the majority of juvenile sex offenders are likely to become adult sex offenders. The estimated risk of juvenile sex offending leading to adult offending may have been exaggerated by an over-reliance on retrospective research studies. What they originally told police in around 2006 I believe is that he never received counseling. He was only sent away to do manual labor with a family friend. They changed their story when the news came out this year. Even if 85-95% don't reoffend, there is still that 5-15%. If his sexual development turned out to be normal, he wouldn't have an addiction to pornography.
