This has been around for a while now and is essentially Strayer licensing Jack Welch's name for profit. It isn't cheap, and the program's reputation doesn't hold a candle to the (expensive) elite online MBA programs offered by Kelley, Kenan-Flagler and Tepper or even to the "best of the rest" online MBAs. Considering that you could get an online MBA from the likes of Isenberg as an out-of-state student for cheaper, I can't see this program being a good investment. Why go to a for-profit when there are plenty of respectable state schools offering better, AACSB accredited programs for less?

I hope this doesn't come out sounding the wrong way, but isn't this just a Strayer University MBA with the "Jack Welch" name slapped onto their business school?

Edit: Yanji beat me to it.

If one can't get into the top MBA programs, then I would advise that person to just get an MBA from any ol' cheap podunk school with AACSB accreditation. I would recommend any cheaper regionally accredited school with or without business accreditation before I would Slayer University. Confusedmilelol:

I really didn't expect Jack Welch to stoop so low. He actually started it at a lesser school, Chancellor University, which went out of business after losing its accreditation.

To be fair, he didn't make a name for himself running GE as a non-profit. Tongue

I agree, because numbers don't lie. However, IMHO the laughing smiley is a bit much. In my undergraduate days, I took five courses from Strayer, and probably would have finished there had I not moved out of what was then their area. All the courses but one were great, in fact the logic course I took through them was the most interesting course I think I've ever taken at university, at any level. So yes, Strayer's overpriced, but that doesn't mean it's crappy.

My point is that there is no benefit to attending Strayer over cheaper, regionally accredited colleges. It's not going to make your resume look better, you're probably not going to make connections that you wouldn't have made at other schools, and it doesn't have the top faculty in the world. If I were considering a school like Strayer, then I would just choose the most dirt cheap school I could find.

IF you are going to work for the FEDs, especially in the DC area, Strayer will actually help you. My deputy director is a Strayer grad and he makes over $140K a year. Strayer has a "fair" reputation in the area. Of course, gtown is the king in the area, followed by UM College Park, GWU, Johns Hopkins, and G. Mason.

Don't waste time by trying to save time. The only sure way to complete your degree is to knock out credits quickly and efficiently.

Don't let easiness bite you in the rear. Know your endgame (where you want to be) and plan backward from there. Your education is a means to an end.

Be honest professionally, socially and academically. There are people (especially little ones) who look up to you and they're going by your example.

Be proud. Whether you're an Engineer or Fast Food worker, there is honor and dignity in hard work.

Picking on people weaker than you only proves that you are a weak person.

My understanding is that the federal government doesn't care about prestige, so a Strayer degree is just as good as any other degree. If the person hiring you has the same alma mater, then that is a different story. I wouldn't attend Strayer with the hopes that a hiring manager at one agency will hire me. If the federal government does care about prestige, you admitted that Strayer is not considered prestigious. Many other cheaper universities have a "fair" reputation. The deputy director probably could have gotten his position with a degree from Podunk State U.
