Is this enough
#1
Purchased the Instantcert subscription and have been studying for the Sociology CLEP. The website claims a 97% pass rate for those getting 80% of the flashcard blanks. I'm not trying to get the highest score, just pass. As I'm getting closer to finishing studying here, I have looked at a Peterson exam. The first 8 questions or so I aced 7. Then the questions became a little more difficult. Yet I've heard the Peterson's may be harder than the actual exam. The practice questions on the CLEP site I knew 7 out of 8. My question, can someone reinforce that just studying with the IC method I should be fine hitting a passing score? (Should I not be concerned about practice exams and what material they may contain?) I don't want to overdo it.

I think so...try "Free CLEP Prep" website or http://www.educationportal.edu if you feel like you still want re-assurance that you'll pass. They are both free. I thought Sociology was an easy test. On the Free CLEP prep site it ranks the difficulty exams and tells you a little bit about them. It's free and the guy on there (Justin) is super nice and quite helpful. Check those resources out and see how you score with them if you have time and need reassurance. If I had to put money on you, I would say you should pass if you just used the Instantcert and Petersons. Only you really know where you stand though Smile

Best of Luck, I'll watch for your "I PASSED" e-mail soon Smile

Use IC to learn the material, then definitely use practice tests to see how well you know it.

Thanks guys, so an update is I went to the library and sat down with the official 2013 CLEP book and took the practice test. I scored 80%, and obviously learned in the process, (checked my answers). I feel that this should be a high enough grade. I actually have not really used the Peterson's. After about question 18 I got discouraged and felt the questions were having me learn too much info.

Furthermore, when taking the CLEP practice today, a lot of questions I was able to answer or rule out wrong answers based on my college background. (I'm basically finishing my degree). For example, the question about negative correlation I learned in Analysis of Economic Data for example. so my background combined with IC could definitely explain my high result. I went to the testing center but they're closed until the 2nd. I guess I'm wondering more of the accuracy of the 97% pass rate. I would use IC regardless but I don't want to overdo it. I'll check out the links and I think ignore the Petersons. I think I will start studying for test 2, Marketing.

Petersons PTs are too hard, but they do teach concepts really well. On the other hand, the Official CLEP Study Guide PT is on the easy side. So I wouldn't give up on the Petersons PTs so easily Wink

I'm thinking that an 80% (plus what I would have learned taking that exam to boost my score) should be sufficient to pass? Even if it is a little on the easy side, the book does not give a percentage correct that you should make or a raw score, but it does say in the beginning that if you can answer "most" or "a majority" of the questions then you should go ahead and take the exam. I can only assume this to mean over 50% ("most"), maybe up to 75%. I'm probably just going to go ahead and take it when I can. For me, I have a lot of tests and other things to prepare for, so I don't want to overdo my studying if not needed. I've also been studying for the Spanish CLEP, (thanks Spanishhour.com) and I've felt confident enough to add my next exam Marketing into the mix.
