Intro Sociology?

I know you are all saying this is easy. My question is if REA and instacert are enough for a 14 year old homeschooler who is fairly sheltered from psych and soc concepts. Not much background in things like glass cieling ect....

I think that instant cert and the Rea should be more than enough. When I took this test I was 20 yrs.old had been home schooled my whole life and never studied any of this stuff. I didn't start testing until I was 19 but I could have started earlier and done fine. I have over 100 credits from testing now and sociology is the easiest test I've taken. (Have you taken any other CLEP tests? I think the first one always feels harder than it really is. I took Anal. and Interpreting lit. first and made a 65. Yet it felt impossibally difficult.) I recommend that when people study for any exam that they use a search engine. For example use this search string:

CLEP sociology and psychology are best taken as a pair. There is a lot of overlap. Both require a knowledge of Freud's psychosexual theories. Not all homeschooling families would be comfortable having a 14 year old study psychosexual theories. On the other hand, some might prefer having the subject matter taught at home where there are clear moral values as reference.

If the 14 year old can understand what is written in Wikipedia, then things should be okay. Doing searches will engage the student. Terms such as anomie and people such as Auguste Comte should be what is searched and read about in Wikipedia. Ideally the student can discuss what was learned with adults, perhaps at the dinner table. Active learning is better than passive learning.

It's mostly common sense and test taking skills.

Example: What is the term for marriage outside of your specific group?

Well you should know the suffix "gamy" is marriage related... like polygamy, bigamy, etc.

And the prefix "exo" means outside as in an exothermic reaction, etc.

So the two together equal "exogamy" and ta-da that's the answer.

Whether your fourteen year old can figure that out is up to him/her. Take the peterson's practice test.
