Intermediate Accounting II @ TESU
#1
Hello All,

I'm still a bit of a ways out from taking this course however, I am trying to set a plan of where to take this course. What are my options for this course? I have everything else planned out in terms of what classes I need and where to get them except for this one. I am looking for options on where to go, cost, and ease of signing up and if it is work at my own pace. I like to power through courses so I can move onto the next one.

I took Intermediate Accounting II through Penn Foster. I believe the current price is $299. It is very easy to sign up. You call and sign up for an INDIVIDUAL COURSE at Penn Foster. You work at your own pace. The course overall is a pretty good choice if you must have this course, but there is a one-hour open-book, proctored final exam that is very difficult because of the time constraint. But if you do well on the rest of the course (multiple choice quizzes that can be re-taken once) you don't need a great score on the final to pass the course.

There is a detailed review of the course in this thread by another forum member: http://www.degreeforum.net/general-educa...eview.html

CSU Global has an exam for $250. I don't have any experience with it, but here is the website:https://csuglobal.edu/undergraduate/prog...tions/cbes

Good luck!
I don't know what the future holds, but I know Who holds the future.

I should add to my post above that I don't have experience with TESU, but I know that some of their transfer equivalencies, especially for accounting courses are really weird and make no sense. So be sure that these courses are the ones that you need before you take them.

I think you are good if you take the course at either CSU-Global CBE or PF, but it never hurts to get those pre-approved before you start. It's a quick and easy process at TESU, especially if the courses are already in their databases (PF is for sure, not sure about CSU-G but it shouldn't be a problem).

Thanks everyone for your input. I think I will go with the Penn Foster option. I plan on taking this sometime early next year. Want to get Intermediate ACC I done first of course.

I did Intermediate I through TESU and Intermediate II at a local CC. Upon reflection I could have done them both as PLA, but just didn't realize it at the time. If not PLA, then I wish I had done the first one at the CC instead of TESU. The CC was pretty cheap and I like being in a classroom--I like the social aspect of education, and online learning just doesn't provide that. Not all CCs in my area offer the Intermediate sequence though, I've discovered, which I don't understand since they are LL courses.
BSBA/Accounting TESU (2016). MSA UIUC (2018).

Need help with portfolios? I earned 18 credits at TESU through portfolio evaluations. Nine of those were for upper level accounting courses. My advice for PLA/portfolios: TESU portfolio tips The first post has the Portfolio Checklist I created. Page ten has the actual narrative I wrote to receive credit for ACC-440.

Using Straighterline's Financial Accounting as a substitute for TESU's Intermediate Accounting I? Don't do it if you are an accounting major and/or want your CPA license. They are not the same course and I think TESU has erred in accepting the SL course as Intermediate I. I made this discovery here: Intermediate Accounting II.

I think colleges only offer it if they have an Accounting degree where they require the course - most CC's offer the entire series of courses you need for a specific degree there, so if they don't have an Accounting degree, then they won't have much except Accounting I & II for Business degrees.

My local CC has an AS in Accounting, but it is very low level - Accounting I & II, Payroll taxes, Quickbooks, Spreadsheets, Income tax. Nothing higher than Managerial Accounting. It's basically like a generic business degree, with a few very low level accounting courses thrown in. It wouldn't get you very far if you wanted to work in accounting beyond the very lowest level (A/R or A/P).
