In a pinch ....
#1
I am under a tight academic schedule with my employer and trying very hard to graduate in December. I have 4 electives left to take. Can anyone suggest which CLEPS or Dantes are the easiest and don't require weeks of studying? Sad I work full time and am raising my grandson and have very little "quiet" time to myself. I took the Humanities exam and failed miserably. My failure, however, was because I purchased a Humanities Clep book w/a CD from Amazon to study instead of using InstantCert. I had the book down pat - there were NO questions from the book on the exam. None. That CLEP would have been two class credits for me - and since I didn't pass it, now I am back peddeling! Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!!:o

Are your electives free electives or general education electives? IF they are free electives, you could do all 12 credits from FEMA. There is no cost, and it is open book to be taken at home! Can't get any easier than that.

This might sound silly, but what is the difference between free electives and General Education electives? I am finishing up my BA with Strayer University.

I have actually taken 3 FEMA classes through my employer - 100, 200 & 700 - Any idea how many credits - if any - these classes equate to?

I was under the impression that Strayer required that the courses outlined in their particular degree program must be taken from them or am I incorrect?

You have to find out if your college accepts ACE-Evaluated classes first, call your advisor. They probably do, but you should ask.

Second, free electives can be in any area- (business for example) while general education electives have to be in either humanities, science, math, or social science.

If your employer takes ACE evaluated credit, you can get 1 credit each for the FEMAs. I don't have the link in front of me- you can search this board to find the list of all the FEMA classes that are ACE evaluated.

You should call now while someone is available to specifically answer your question. Again, you want to ask them if you need free electives or general education electives- and if the answer is free electives, you want to ask them if they will accept ACE evaluated credit.

P.S. I'm not a FEMA expert- I know many here are, I hope they will chime in!!!

I have to take the CLEP or the DANTE exams at my home Strayer University campus - but nothing precludes me from taking the exams for credits in lieu of the classes.

Thanks, Jennifer. Actually, I have had all of my older training classes evaluated through ACE and they were all to long ago to give me any ACE credits. I just sent my training transcripts from my employer to my Dean outlining the FEMA classes that I took - Hopefully he will be able to tell me if I can get credit for those.

I did not know about the Free vs. General Education Electives - That is something that I definitely need to check on - THANK YOU!! Strayer has a list of available CLEPS/DSST Exams on their website - I would assume that the onest they have listed are all approved to be taken for electives but I will double check that before I jump in. I have been studying for and had planned to take the Intro to Law Enforcement DSST - In the event that I have to take General Education credits, does that fall in to any of the required categories?

Don't use you experience with Humanities as a gauge because I think it might just be one of the most difficult CLEPs (depending on your back round). I took it recently and IMO it was a very, very tough. I spent 4-5 weeks studying and used many sources for that test since it's so broad.

Don't kick yourself too hard. Humanities is a broad subject, and the subject matter can be tedious.
As far as easy...If you have any medical background at all DSST-Substance Abuse should not be too bad. (But it is applied professional credit at EC.) Like to read? Perhaps Clep-Analyzing and Interpreting Lit. would be an option.
Almost every exam has been reviewed on this site, just pick one and search for it, and see which one appeals to you the most.
Good Luck.
