DD#1just finished Public Speaking from BYU. If it weren't for this forum I would not have known about DL from BYU. She is shooting for a Dec. graduation date for her AS at COSC. Up next, dSST environmental Science.

Good for her. While I haven't looked into that course, it seems that it must take extra effort to complete it in a non-traditional manner.

There are 9 separate speeches that you write, deliver on video and upload, each of differing types. Straightforward reading of provided materials and 9 quizzes as well, done as you log on. I was totally hands off with this class. She takes online courses so she was use to all the things one has to do to film and upload the speeches. That was the confusing part for me, but she had no trouble. I thought the grading was fair, and positive comments from the instructor to better herself each time. We had the paper materials delivered to us when I purchased the course. They arrived in three days! You are given a year to complete the course. Work on it when you want, as it fits into your schedule.

BYU allows one year to complete the course. She worked it in to open weekends during the school year and this past summer. We like asynchronous courses with a lengthy time limit. While she did need positive suggestions to "why don't you go work on Public Speaking", I think that was due to age/maturity and full schedule, as you can tell by the sig below! But she did the class entirely by herself and enjoyed writing the speeches on topics of her choosing. We homeschool, so I think our life is considered non traditional - just one more thing I put on the checklist!

She enjoyed it very much. Since she picked her own topics she had fun picking something controversial and she also threw in a couple of obscure topics. She is one who learns by doing. She is a voracious reader and likes project based classes. I thought the price was reasonable for 3 credits, and was on her leisure to finish within a year. I think she would recommended this class and found it fun.

That's different. When I took the course a few years back, you could record audio of yourself, which made it convenient. I guess they changed it a bit. This will be good info to give my daughter as she will be attempting it in the near future.

Don't waste time by trying to save time. The only sure way to complete your degree is to knock out credits quickly and efficiently.

Don't let easiness bite you in the rear. Know your endgame (where you want to be) and plan backward from there. Your education is a means to an end.

Be honest professionally, socially and academically. There are people (especially little ones) who look up to you and they're going by your example.

Be proud. Whether you're an Engineer or Fast Food worker, there is honor and dignity in hard work.

Picking on people weaker than you only proves that you are a weak person.
