IBM SkillsBuild Cybersecurity Certificate

Has anyone transferred the IBM SkillsBuild Cybersecurity Certificate to TESU or UMPI?

Just to clarify, I am talking about the IBM SkillsBuild Cybersecurity Certificate, not the IBM Cybersecurity Analyst Professional Certificate offered through Coursera.

I completed the SkillsBuild certificate through UoPeople. The current ACE recommendation is:
ACE ID: IBM-0028
12 semester hours total:

• 3 SH LL – Fundamentals of Cybersecurity
  
• 3 SH UL – Technology Management
  
• 3 SH UL – Cybersecurity Analysis
  
• 3 SH UL – Threats and Incident Response
  
  

So the recommendation is 3 LL + 9 UL credits.
My main interest is the 9 upper-level credits, so receiving only an introductory cybersecurity course would make a pretty significant difference for my planning.

I found one previous DegreeForum data point where TESU evaluated the certificate as CYB-1200 Introduction to Cybersecurity for 3 SH. From what I can tell, TESU appears to have evaluated the certificate itself that way rather than simply placing it there because of the student's particular degree.
Has anyone submitted IBM-0028 to TESU since then and received a different evaluation?
I would especially be interested in hearing from anyone who received any upper-level CYB, CIS, CS, IT, or related computer credit, even if TESU did not match the exact ACE-recommended titles. For my purposes, upper-level technical/computer electives could still be useful.

Hmm, these are good for the certs, degree, experience trifecta, especially for the cheap, easy, fast trifecta as well! I think someone may have already taken these certs, but not sure if anyone has tried transferring them into TESU/UMPI yet.

This is one of your pieces of advice that have stuck with me. I've been drafting my resume for when I leave the military, and I pretty much designed it using the "trifecta." Great advice BJ!

Yeah, I agree on the **cert + degree + experience trifecta**. That is a good combination to build toward.

One issue with the Army side, though, is that you can get trained and actually do the work, but then move into a different assignment and only stay proficient in that specific skill for a relatively short period. Over a long career you end up with experience across a lot of areas, but not necessarily current hands-on proficiency in all of them.

Systems administration is a good example for me. I have been trained on it and have done the work, but I never had much formal academic coursework specifically in systems administration, and I would not consider myself currently proficient in it anymore.

That is another reason I like some of these certificates and courses. Even when the material overlaps with prior experience, they can help refresh older skills, document them more formally, and hopefully add useful credit toward the degree at the same time.

For the IBM SkillsBuild certificate, I will just have to see how TESU evaluates it when I send it in with my WGU transcript and the rest of my updated credits. I really do not need any more lower-level Computer Science/IT credit, so I am mainly hoping some of the ACE-recommended upper-level credit might help in **Technical Studies or CIS**.

I am planning to finish the **Google Project Management Professional Certificate** first and then send everything in together for evaluation. Once TESU evaluates the IBM certificate, I will post the result so there is another actual data point for it.

Army eh? TESU is your best bet for undergrad, cheap, easy, fast. You can do the TECEP, PLA, Cornerstone/Capstone trifecta to get all the residency and RA credits! TECEPs and PLA don't count for residency credits for civilians, but do for Army folks! 30 RA credits in total is needed, Cornerstone/Capstone is already 6.

24 credits through TECEP and PLA would be easy, as the PLA can generate 12 credits (as a general rule of thumb), and passed TECEPs are 3 credits each. Cornerstone and Capstone would be $250/credit. Your second degree if you decide to get it, is just $750 + a second graduation fee! Do the BACS, BSBA combo!

Yeah, TESU definitely looks like the best fit for the way my Army/JST/ACE credit came in.

I actually started the TESU process before I retired, so I am not sure how much of the Army-specific residency treatment will still apply now that I am out. I will have to verify that part with TESU.

One issue is how Army training has been recommended for ACE credit over the years. Some of my older electronics training was actually pretty substantial, but the credit recommendations are fragmented into a mix of 1- and 2-SH blocks. The newer Advanced Individual Training (AIT) recommendations seem much cleaner, with more of the electronics training grouped into standard 3-SH courses. That makes the newer training much easier for a college to apply even when the actual subject matter is not necessarily broader than what some of us received years ago.
Networking is another example. I received a 3-SH introductory networking recommendation from a later PME/NCOES course, and similar introductory networking credit is now included in the newer AIT recommendations. But earlier in my career I completed a much more substantial dedicated networking and systems-administration training course and received zero ACE credit for it. So the JST does not always reflect the amount or depth of training that was actually completed.

That is why programs like the AAS in Military Technology Leadership, AAS in Applied Electronic Studies, and BS in Technical Studies work so well for me. They have more flexibility to actually use those fragmented military credits.
I looked closely at the BS in Military Technology Leadership too, but it has a few specific upper-level requirements that are harder to source outside TESU. That is one reason I am leaning more toward BS Technical Studies for one bachelor's.
My plan is to pursue the two TESU bachelor's concurrently, rather than finish one and then come back later for a second degree. For the other bachelor's, I am still deciding between Professional Studies and a BSBA with dual Areas of Study in General Management and Computer Information Systems. Professional Studies would probably make better use of my PME/leadership credit, while the BSBA would give me a stronger structured business + technical combination.

The BSBA is also attractive because I am looking at the accelerated BS-to-MS Management pathway. If I do that, the 12 graduate credits, along with the cornerstone and the two bachelor's capstones, would already give me a good amount of TESU coursework, so I am not overly worried about trying to manufacture residency just for the sake of residency.

I also already plan to take two TECEPs because TESU gave me scholarship funding for them, so those will be part of the mix as well.
And I awill  be  continuing with WGU, but I am taking a term break right now, 
So I agree that TESU is probably the best place to maximize the military credit. I am mostly at the point of figuring out which concurrent bachelor’s combination, Areas of Study, certificates, and the MS pathway gives me the best overall use of what I already have.
