I shouldn't even say this......
#1
I shouldn't even say this, but my dh and I decided not to do the MBA at AJU. We both had a great first 2 weeks, and the customer service is extraordinary- two thumbs up. Also, the web cam integration feature for message boards and exams is really great- makes you feel a connection to the professor. But.
I think we are both too afraid that going for an NA degree vs an RA degree might come back to bite us. I know there are transfer opportunities to APUS, but that's only a plan-not a promise. So, we chickened out. We are sending in our withdrawal papers today. He will start looking for a few RA programs to apply to for next semester start. I'm not sure if I will or not- I'll have to see how well I survive this semester of science insanity.

Don't worry I don't think any less of you, still the Queen Bee of IC in my eyes. Probably better to bail now before you invest too much time or money into something you will be constantly second guessing. I'm happy with AMU (APUS) undergrad but you might want to mention to your hubby about Amberton too which Norema started a pretty good thread on.

The fact that you are taking a real A & P class and a real Chemistry class on line with labs at the same time impresses me.

I am having enough trouble with ALEKS begining algebra. I am so glad you suggested this to me. I am not having any trouble learning, but I am slow on the calculations and I am surprised how much I have forgotten. When we don't use something it does go away.

What is your DH going for his degree in?

Give ALEKS a few hours of face time and you'll be lovin' it. You can print out their help pages and solutions, which I have done quite a bit. I find ALEKS is fussy about answers- but you'll get the hang of the quirks.

My dh's associate degree is in culinary arts and his bachelor degree is in hotel restaurant management. His MBA will be general business. AJU's MBA classes are really fun- they even have a long list of electives you can do.

Taylor- I think he is going to exhaust his options at the state schools for Illinois and Iowa first. Honestly, since his undergrad degree is NA, his chances are slim...but, all week I have read about successful admission applicants- so with that in mind, I'd like him to try for acceptance. There is a teenie tiny chance that we would be moving to Iowa City when I am ready for grad school, so University of Iowa for him would be a dream.

Anyway- we both decided that even as cheap as it was- our time costs something. Really, it costs family time, so we really had to think hard if this made sense. It didn't ....though a lot of my whims don't make sense- that usually doesn't stop me from charging ahead. Smile

Stacking a MBA on top of your other work is a lot. When you're ready, check out Chadron State College's MBA. I discovered it after enjoying 12 cr of MIS electives there. RA and inexpensive, well south of $10K. 8-week format. I am thinking of going in another direction, but haven't ruled it out completely.

I think that was a smart decision, and a tough decision to make at this point in the game. I admire your rational thinking. I saw your original post and I didn't think it was a great idea but didn't want to discourage anyone from pursuing their goals. I just think that non-accredited degrees are very risky, especially when you can't transfer those credits. Basically, if you want to an RA degree later on, you have to start from scratch. You might want to check out Amberton's RA online MBA program. It's very inexpensive. Also, Cal State- Dominguez Hills has a pretty good brand name and doesn't cost much.

lol you should have spoken up (j/k I know what you mean)
I'm not in a hurry at all. I'm working on enough right now that requires oodles of study time (4-6 hours per day minimum) so I'm just keeping my head above water. I'm saving all those MBA suggestions though!!!

Thanks for posting, Jenn. I totally relate as I mentioned earlier. My main reason for pursuing a degree requires RA. I could not get a clear answer from either party about what APUS would accept in transfer from AJU. All in all, the potential $2-3k savings didn't look like a good deal. For the record, AJU was still emailing me up till the end of January offereing the sponsored tuition! Drove me crazy, but I resisted.

I am still leaning towards APUS. Seems like the least hassle (admissions, prereq's) and low cost, which are both good things

Does anybody know if Amberton has 8 week courses or do they do regular semesters?
