Online Chemistry, Anatomy & Physiology courses

Thanks for the feedback....

Really great that you can bang out A&P 1 and 2 in one semester. I believe this is true on Biology and Chemistry through them as well. Microbiology is also available.

I also found that the textbooks NMJC uses are available far cheaper than the ones used by Clovis (for A&P and biology anyways). This outweighed the cheaper cost at clovis to me. NMJC has more of the science classes with labs overall.

Microbiology is pretty tough. I would try to avoid taking it at the same time as other biology courses if at all possible.

Hey, I took A&P through Clovis CC this past summer semester. It was pretty easy, the tests are open book but are timed. You have an assignment and quiz to do every tuesday and thursday. Assignments took some time, but not overall that bad. Quizzes are open book but not timed. Tests were almost every 2-3 weeks I think. The final was repeat questions from all the tests, really easy if you can navigate your computer quickly... lol I made an A in the class and didn't really spend that much time on it. The tests are hard but doable!! Let me know if I can be of any further help! Oh and it cost me a total of $186 for the class and all the other fees you have to pay...

Yenisei Wrote:I had Jamie Farrow (AFAIK, she is the only one who teaches the online A&P). I spent around 12-14 hours a week on the courses and I got an A. The labs are OK, primarily identifying the location and functions of various parts of the body. It's a lot of material and you need to be organized and disciplined (I took each 4 credit course in 8 weeks). There is a discussion board each week as well as labs, coursework and exams. The price is pretty good as well (around $80 per credit hour).

Hello! I'm enrolled in NMJC for AP 1&2 this semester. I'm ALSO enrolled in Bio 1&2. Do you think that this is a workable schedule? I don't have a full time job but I do have a husband& daughter, plus I'm taking EMT classes so I'll be busy, but have a flexible schedule.

Thank you for your input, Yenisei! I sincerely appreciate it.Confusedeeya:

University of Texas at Arlington Academic Partnerships

It depends on exactly what courses you need. In general, big schools have chemistry and biology courses for nursing students and different ones for science majors. The online chemistry and biology courses at UTA are for nursing students. As you can see, Anatomy and Physiology 1 and 2 courses are offered at UTA. So is microbiology for nursing students. The price is reasonable even for out-of-state students.

I'm a nursing student at UTA. It is a big, well-established brick and mortar school with a long history of distance education. UTA has a great reputation nationally. The only catch is that you can't get admitted overnight. There can be a bit of a delay getting admitted. It depends on when in the calendar year you apply.

As I've said before, you can get a degree from UTA or Lamar University Lamar University Academic Partnerships for about the same or less than some of the online only schools.

Not Yenisei, but do you mean you are taking an EMT program and 16 credits of lab science in 1 semester, or over 2? Over 2 semesters- ap 1 w/ bio1 followed by ap2 and bio 2 is perfect. Over 1 semester? Uhhhhh would they all be concurrent or do you do 2 in 8 weeks then 2 in 8 weeks? I think it's a stretch time-wise, but maybe they cut down on the number of labs you'll do? All of my sciences did 12 labs per course; But my real comment is that there is no time to marinate.

That's overkill. I had 16 credits of math and biology in Spring 2010, but I wouldn't recommend it, much less an EMT course in addition to that.

It would be all 16 credits in 1 semester, in 8 week chunks. So AP1 & Bio1 concurrently, then AP2 & Bio2. Yeah... part of me thought it would be a stretch & a gamble, the other thought "maybe I can really do this"... so I thought I'd ask someone who had at least taken AP online and had an idea what it was like. Thank you both for your input!
