Hey Y'all!
I am no longer subscribed to Instantcert, so could someone please add this feedback to the Specific Exam section for others to view! Thank you in advance!
I took this TECEP last Friday. It was my first TECEP, so I was a little nervous about it. I used the recommended text - Crafting and Executing Strategy: The Quest for Competitive Advantage. I believe I used the 17th edition. I found the test to be similar to what I expected. The format for the test is the same with 30 m/c, 5 short answer, and 3 essay questions. The most recent feedback for the test is still applicable. Here is a list of what I would suggest studying and what I remember from this TECEP.
- Definition of Corporate Culture and Subculture
- Vision vs. Mission
- 3 steps in creating competitive advantage/ 4 steps in managing the process (Must know all steps for essay!)
- 5 forces model of competition and 3 steps that go along with that
- Global vs. Multicountry Strategy
- Strategic Plan = Vision + Objectives + Strategy
- Strategic Alliances -- Benefits, Reasons for entering, reasons for failure, etc.
- Mergers and Acquisitions -- Benefits, Failures, etc.
- International Diversification and Unrelated vs. Related diversification
- Know definition of Fragmented industry and also an example of that industry
- There were several M/C questions that asked for the definition of certain topics such as the Strategic Plan or Fragmented Industry
- Emerging Industries
- Several of the questions asked you to "give 3 benefits of..." or "give 3 reasons for failure" etc. These questions were used widely throughout the essay and short answer questions, especially pertaining to mergers, strategic alliances, emerging industries, etc.
I brought 3 sharpened pencils which was enough for me! There is a lot of writing and my hand was getting a little tired near the end. I finished in about 2 hours and 15 minutes, so I had enough time to check answers and correct the essays. I feel confident that I passed, but I guess I will know for sure in about 3 weeks or so! I hope someone finds this information helfpful! Concentrate solely on the book, especially know the steps to certain processes, and you should pass! Good Luck to all future test takers!

P.S. My next TECEP is Financial markets and Institutions so if anyone can provide any helpful feedback, I would appreciate it! If not, I will post my feedback when I take it in a few months.
