I haven't taken my first CLEP exam yet, but I am currently studying for the College Comp or College Comp Modular (not sure which one yet). I also don't have a school picked out yet either. When I pass the exam what happens to my results? Does the college board keep them on record for me until I am ready to enroll someplace?
Next question is what are these FEMA courses all about? I've gone to the website and I've read what's on there but does anyone have personal experience with this? Do these courses give you college credit to other schools or just the community college that they have listed?
Lastly, besides TESC, Excelsior & Charter Oak what other schools are popular with transferring the CLEP and DSST credits? I've been considering Columbia College Online..any thoughts about that school? Any suggestions for other schools?
Thanks for the help!

When you pass a CLEP the College Board keeps your score on file for 20 years. Also, before you take the test, you will be asked where you want the score sent. You may either choose a school (there is a list and I believe it includes "other") or you may choose "do not send." If you choose the latter you will receive your score in the mail. If you choose a school the transcript will be sent there. If you pick "do not send" and then later on you want it sent to a school, you will have to fill out a transcript request form to have it transferred. You can find that form on the College Board website.
I'm going through TESC so I don't know of any other schools first hand. But I've heard that U. Phoenix Online is another accelerated/distance learning school. Also, I've heard LSU mentioned, but I don't know that they accept a lot of CLEPS, maybe just a few particular ones.

urban cowboy is right, clep will hold your score on file for 20 yrs. when you finally pick a school you can have the scores transferred. i have not picked a school yet either, so i put "do not send" when i take a test. When I finally enroll I will have them all transferred.
as far as Fema goes... i am not super qualified to answer all your questions. I have taken only one test with them so far-- just to see what it was all about. I went to the website, picked a test (the one about animals and disaster), read the material and took the test online. You then submit the test and they send you an email if you passed. I passed and received 1 college credit - yay. As far as I know they hold your scores until you need to transfer them. This is where it gets tricky--- TESC will take the scores raw as far as I know. This is what alissaroot said in one of her threads
"TESC accepts raw fema credits (25? 27?), but EC and COSC require that they be transcribed through another school, costing $$. However, COSC and EC both accept more fema credits than TESC once they've been transcribed."
Hope this helps!

I'd suggest you visit the webiste for any college whether B & M or online and review their programs. Columbia College Online has posted the following regarding testing:
"May I test out of any classes?
Columbia College will give college credit for passing scores on CLEP or DSST exams.
What are CLEP and DSST/Dantes exams?
These are standardized tests that can be taken in various subjects to give credit for a specific class. The tests are not given through the Online Campus, but may often be taken at one of the Columbia College sites or numerous locations around the world."
Best wishes to you.

As urbancowboy20 said, when you start your exam you will be asked where you want your score sent to, and you can choose "do not send". And they will keep it on record for 20 years. Although I have never gotten my score in the mail no matter what I choose. It is always printed out at the testing center.

FEMA courses are like little open book tests. You download all the material and you use it to answer the test (usually 50 questions although there were one or two that were only 15 and a few that were 25). If you get 75% right, you get one credit. FCC (the college on the website) will give you credit for them and you can transfer them somewhere else from there (I'm not sure how many schools will accept it that way) but it can get very pricey that way. TESC will accept them directly. I did 21 and they were completely free. Generally FEMAs are only good for free electives but there are one or two that can be general ed. I think. TESC doesn't accept all FEMAs. I attached the list they gave me of which ones they accept, but they haven't updated it in a while and some don't exist anymore.
Lastly, besides TESC, Excelsior & Charter Oak what other schools are popular with transferring the CLEP and DSST credits? I've been considering Columbia College Online..any thoughts about that school? Any suggestions for other schools?
I don't know this one. Sorry.

FEMA credits TESC.doc
I was looking at the list of FEMA's and I have a question. What is the difference b/w Introduction, Applied, and Theory? Does it have to do with what credits it will apply to or is it something else?
I might use FEMA's for some free electives and was wondering if only the ones marked FE (Free electives) will work?
Thanks,
Horsemaniac

Hi and welcome! I know you're considering Columbia, but if you have any questions about Charter Oak, Thomas Edison or Excelsior, make sure to check out this recent thread comparing the three: http://www.degreeforum.net/excelsior-tho...rison.html

Thanks,
Horsemaniac I'm not really sure what the difference is, but TESC accepts all the ones on the list as free electives. So it doesn't really matter.

Just a thought.......Columbia will require a certain number of hours be completed "in residency" (I think). So plan accordingly. As is mentioned here quite a bit, the great thing about the big 3 (COSC,TESC,EC) is that they have little or no residency requirement. So if you can get your 120 credits for a batchelors through testing, cc, and FEMA (just as examples) you save a considerable amount of money. Columbia and UofP are both rather pricey...I would be cautious about U of P in particular its a for profit school and stories abound of the hardship one can encounter when attending "for profit" colleges. Just a friendly warning......research it for yourself and make an informed decision. Most here will recommend one of the big 3.
Once transcribed by either FCC or credited through the program at Red Rocks CC (a CC in Colorado) or Guam CC. the FEMA's can theoretically be used for credit at any other regionally accredited college, most are likely to accept them that was......however granting credit is done at the sole discretion of the accepting college so you need to ask ahead.
Good luck !

I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this). Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.
