My AP Literature class in high school was so difficult to stomach, teachers and "experts" trying to act as if they actually know what the author intended 99% of the time when I sincerely doubt they have a leg to stand on. The beauty of literature is that sometimes you have to decide for yourself, or take a best guess, or personalize the vague. Often-times this makes objective knowledge of the author's intent impossible. It's better that way. Sometimes it's obvious, and other times we must accept that it's not.
UGGH!!!! My AP English teacher mainly assigned us to read what she considered to be prefeminist and early feminist novels. banghead OH, and did you know that every male author that has ever existed was gay? If you read waaaaaay between the lines of their works, there can be no denying that fact. Every last one of them. Ever.

Thanks!

Hi burbuja,

Now, I might not be any big city studying person, but if there's one thing I know, it's that the things that are worthwhile doing are not always the easiest things to do. Smart woman like you should be able to find the easiest way to do hard and worthwhile things, though. Smile

That, and of all the other good folks here, so many are in situations twice as difficult as our own. Reading about some of their stories and remembering that a couple of years ago I was never going to get a degree keeps me going.

Good luck.

I knew they were all gay! I kept telling everyone that those fancy-smancy words they used were G-A-Y but noooooooo they wouldn't believe me!

Actually I don't really care one way or the other about the sexuality of authors. I do understand your point though and also really dislike making an issue of it in class. If it happens to come up that "so-and-so" was gay or was straight, okay swell. Nice bit of trivia I suppose, now let's move on. :coolgleam:
