I am down to 7 UL tests and and Information Literacy and I will have my Bachelor's Degree and now I am in a rut. I have been trying for 2 weeks to study for the ECE Abnormal Psychology exam and I still haven't made it through IC one complete time. My mind drifts or I just can't concentrate. I hate it, I am so close, I tell myself to buckle down and get through this last stretch and I am struggling. After 2 weeks of making myself read through this, I don't know if any of it is sinking in. I was hoping to be finished by the end of the year, now I am not so sure. I have thought about just completely shutting down for a week or so but this is all kind of habit now and I am afraid if I take time off, I wont want to start up. I really just want my life back and right now I am hostage to studying. OK, I have whined enough, gotta go try and make it through this section.

Doug,
When I'm in a rut, I usually use my 4X4 pickup to get me out. haha just kidding. Rolleyes
I know what you're going through, in a way. When I was in Iraq, I used this forum and the IC flashcards to get my mind off of getting blown up and dealing with the fact that I was stuck there. I usually studied about 2 or 3 hours a night while I was over there. Because of that, I ended up passing 8 CLEPs and DSSTs.
The advice and support on this forum is great. You say you want your life back, well you have it, just manage your time to where you don't feel like a hostage of studying. Smile Maybe study a few hours less per day, take a couple of days off, or change the subject like others mentioned. The biggest thing is not to go cold turkey. Keep a steady pace.
My goal to finish my BSLA is my upcoming deployment back to Iraq next year. I have 13 months to finish up.

here's my schedule: Mon-Fri
0530 -0730 Physical Training
0830 -1700 Work
1700- 2200 Family time
2200-0000 Study Time (US History II currently)
0000-0430 Sleep Time

You're almost there so don't quit on us now.

I just experienced the exact thing this week, so I took two straight days off. And I mean off I did not go to work nor did I study.

I felt very guilty thinking I should be studying when I am not working which could put me ahead, but I just stuck to my plan of resting.

Today I feel great and just paid for 3 ECE Exams

Sat Nov 1st EC Adulthood and Aging
Sat Nov 8th EC Gerontology
SAt Nov 15th EC Abnormal Psy

I hope I survive the first two they are very depressing subject, I will be doing some Fema in between

I Love this qoute about work I read from one book it really encouranges me when I am down. I usually substitute Work for STUDY

If your health is threatened, WORK! (STUDY)
If Disappointment Surface, WORK! (STUDY)
if your faith falters, WORK! (STUDY)
If you Inherit riches, continue to WORK! (STUDY)
If your dreams are shattered and the star of hope begins to darken your horizon, WORK! (STUDY)
If sorrow overwhelms you, or your friends prove untrue or desert you, WORK! (STUDY)
if you are happy, keep right on WORKING, (STUDYING)
WORK (STUDY)as if your life depended on it, because it does

That's funny, those are the same 3 tests I just paid for, along with Information Literacy. I need to set up the test dates now. Thanks for the encouragement.

Just remember, Your Education Is In Your Hands, no one else! You can do what ever you want, clear your mind, take a deep breath, and get out of your own pit of self pity!

You have the power, to overcome and adapt to every situation! Get a change of location and vary your study schedule. You must think of it as "One Building Block at a time" Not conquering the Sears Tower in One Shot!

That is how I did it, Short Term Objectives, not the whole enchilada at one time!

If I CAN DO IT! ANYONE CAN! and that really SAYS A LOT!

So, put on your Bee Gee Records and start studying!
CCAF-AS Logistics Management
CCAF-AS Bio-Environmental Science
Cerro Coso Community College-AS Administration of Justice
Excelsior College-BS Criminal Justice-2008
TESC-BA Liberal Studies-2009
2 Different Bachelor Degrees completed in under 2 years!

One thing that always helps me is setting goals. Seriously.

As another person said, try registering for an exam so you have a date in the future in your mind. Once you have that date, break up the studying into manageable pieces that you can digest. You'll learn faster and retain more.

We all know that you're smart and probably could sit down and study everything at once and still pass. That can be overwhelming though. You'll be a lot less anxious about studying if you just break it down. Try it.
