Hi Everyone,
Whew! This semester was insane! I hardly had a chance to do anything except work and go to school because I staged, sold and moved out of my house, was out of the country for about 10 days, and moved into temporary housing. Besides that, we had a death in the family of a younger family member, I worked 3 jobs, and still managed to get all my discussion boards and papers in on time. So I haven't been that active on here this semester, but I can tell you that the last semester of nursing was not all that badâ¦it was my personal life that made it so hectic! In any case I am DONE! I have my BSN portion completed and about 50% of my MSN behind me. Because my last day of class was today (and that's when grades were posted) I am not eligible to walk for TESC graduation until NEXT September.
On another note, I was THRILLED to be inducted into the International Honor Society of Nurses! Wow, GLOBAL HONOR reserved for nurses in the top percent of their class! I was thrilled! I chose to accept the induction into this honor society this weekend at TESC (which meant I was at the same place and in the same place (Sun Arena) as the people that were walking this September). It was a beautiful day and I live in New Jersey, so I went ahead and went. It was cool to get the award and the arena was a cool place to go.
Here's some interesting information. Even though I accepted the induction this Saturday, my name will not be in graduation brochure until next year. I will have to bring my purple and white honor cords to next years ceremony and because I am graduating this year (in December), I'll walk next September. Seems weird, but I tripled checked this with my advisor, the Dean and the Registrar. It's a weird glitch. I was among about 20 others in the same boat from my nursing program.
I have a question for you guys that have been in a similar situation. I am 99.9% sure I am eligible for the Arnold Fletcher Award. But I did not get any notification about it. When does that come? I sent in my 299.00 graduation fee and I don't owe the school any other money. My grades were posted online and the TESC website says I have to have my graduation application in and all my debts to the school paid by October 1st. Once my grades are actually processed, which I am assuming should be a in a few daysâ¦I will have "0" credits remaining. I live in state (in NJ), I have all A's and I completed all my classes. The BSN program I was in did not let you take the last 2 nursing courses unless you have all your other credits completed and reviewedâ¦so know I am good there. So my question isâ¦when do I find out about the Arnold Fletcher Award? Do I have to come early for that award ceremony next year and then walk for my BSN after that?
Anyway, I am SOOOO excited to be done with the BSN portion and ready to roll on the MSN degree in the very near future. I just need to catch up financially AND get a house first. I think I will want to start (somewhere) for my MSN in January. I want to pick your brains about the best MSN or better yet PhD programs that offer mostly (90% or more) online course work. My focus is going to be education. At TESC, this was called, "Master of Science in Nursing" Nurse Educator track. I am open to other schools. But I want to hear all of your opinions. I live in NJ and I know TESCâ¦still I want to push myself, but not bankrupt myself. I kinda like the idea of going to a Cornell or Yale, but not the price tag. If not those Ivy's then possibly Vanderbilt or University of Pennsylvania? If I am not going to be able to afford that... how about some of the better respected state schools? Are there any cheaper state schools with a good rep? If I professionally go the academic route, it might be nice to have a school that people recognize so I can get published more easily. I was thinking about Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) or something like that. Any tips? Or how about taking a course at the Harvard Annex school using that to get into a place like MUSC, and not having to pay a huge price tag? I am up for a lay out of plans if you are not sure what I want. Heck, I am not even sure what will work best for me yet! Plan A - Fancy Schmancy schools (and how to pay for them) Plan B - Not as fancy of schools, but decent schools with less expensive options Plan C - Cheapest Options out there with online classes. Plan D- Whatever you think might be cool to get a great educationâ¦preferably online with little to no student loan debtâ¦is this even possible? Anyone up to the challenge, I am all earsâ¦or eyesâ¦since I'll be reading this!
Thanks everyone! And for you newbies reading thisâ¦I am living proof, you CAN do this
All the best,
Tara
