I just Need Some Encouragement Please
#1
Brick
TLDR: I need encouragment to push through the next nine weeks and get 7 classes completed.

I'm completing my first term for my degree in Elementary Education at WGU. I already had an associates degree, so I transffered in a lot of credits. My plan was to complete all my regular courses this term, and do all my field experience and studnet teaching next term. I am taking tests on 3 courses tomorrow, and after that I will have completed 9 courses. I have 9 weeks left in my term, and 7 courses.  I know I can do it. Part of the reason it took me so long to get the first nine done was computer issues. I was without a computer for a month. I have been completing most of my courses in a weekend. However, I feel myself getting burned out.  I could really use some encouragment from everyone who is or has been in the trenches. Thank you!
This forum is what convinced me to go to WGU and I love it!

It may sound counterintuitive, but take a day off to recharge and refresh, then come back with a plan.

Make a plan that is a bit less aggressive so that you dont continue to burn yourself out.

Reward yourself for each accomplishment and celebrate it.

And lastly, dont be hard on yourself. It is hard to finish alot of classes for a degree quickly. Set smaller goals like finish a few classes and set that as an accomplishment.

Anxiety, while helpful at times, can be counterproductive when it causes you to become overly stressed about getting it all done. Burnt out people rarely work efficiently, quickly, or effectively. Do things to help lessen your stress (see above) and you might surprised yourself on how much more effective you might be.

I remember my first time being introduced to the world of Competency-Based Education/Proficiency-Based Education (CBE or PBE). WGU was the first school I had ever attended in that domain. I think WGU is a great opportunity for students to really learn some valuable material and transferable skills. When I first did it, I did the B.S. Healthcare Administration. I was super excited about the school and having the capacity to test out of courses - I knocked out 2 healthcare courses in the span of 3 hours. I was there in May of 2023.

Lock in, knuckle down, and knock those courses out! You're so close to the finish line.
