I had a plan for TESC, but considering switching to COSC. Some COSC questions.
#1
The catalog says 30 upper level credits are required for a degree. The Cornerstone would count as 3 UL and the Capstone 3 UL? The UL courses do not have to all be in the concentration, right? My son will be concentrating in history, but his UL can be in other subjects....like World Religions for 3 and Money and Banking for 3 more?

I am finding it a little harder to plan than TESC, but I think it's just because I am not used to the way they show it. At least 60 hours have to be LA. Do the General Requirements fulfil some of those 60 LA? But FEMA's would not?

I just tonight found a PM from one of you who had done the COSC (I left that page so don't remember your name). Thank you! It looks like we will save a lot of money going the COSC route. My only concern is the diploma not showing the area of concentration. Will that make his degree look really generic and not mean as much to employers?

Thanks!

I am confused. I know I just saw 30 UL credits are required, but now I am seeing 18. WHich is it? Thanks.

I cannot find enough UL course to even reach 18 hours with COSC with just CLEP and DSST. Page 55 of the catalog says "Thirty credits must be upper level." There are courses considered upper level with TESC which are not at COSC. We were getting excited about switching the plan to COSC, but now I am not sure. Am I missing something? I found Money and Banking, Business Law 2, Civil War, Rise and Fall, and Business Ethics. What is a TECEP and can my son take it? He's 17 years old and only done CLEP and DSST up til now.

Thanks.

If I remember correctly, COSC requires 15 UL credits in the major and 15 UL credits outside of the major. A COSC student will have better information. Out of the Big 3, TESC accepts the most exams as UL credit. TESC is also the only one that accepts community college courses as UL credit. TESC only requires 18 UL credits for the whole degree, but they have to be in the major. Anyone can take a TECEP. They are credit-by-exams offered by TESC and can be used for credit at other schools. Probably more widely accepted are ECEs which are offered by Excelsior. Excelsior also has Uexcel exams. TECEPs and ECEs are more difficult than CLEPs and DSSTs.

I sent you the message.

You will need 18 credits in the concentration 3 will be from the Capstone so you need 15 in concentration (plus the 3 from capstone) and another 12 from somewhere else...I used 9 of the other 12 to complete a second concentration. Note that all of the 30 UL credits can be within a concentration liberal arts/history/psychology/etc... just remember that 18 HAVE to be within the concentration...the other 12 are practically free electives , just at the UL.

COSC only lists two exams at the UL; Civil War and Soviet Union. Those two along with the Capstone leaves you needing 9 credits in the concentration at the UL. Consider adding the Excelsior exams "world conflicts since 1900" and "cultural diversity" for another 6, I don't know where you would pick up the remaining 3 credits...maybe the "American Dream" ECE I think it counts at the UL but can't find it on the list...was 6 credits I believe. He could always pick up a cheap UL class at University of Idaho, they are around $300 http://www.uidaho.edu/academicaffairs/is...se/history

The credit granted by COSC is here: Charter Oak State College - List of Exams click on "master list of exams"
MBA, Western Governors University February 2014
BS Charter Oak State College November 2011
AS in EMS August 2010

I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this).  Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.
