Quote:On July 1, 2011, we are transitioning to a semester-based fee structure. This means that as of July 1 we will no longer charge an annual academic services fee. Instead, enrolled students will be invoiced a College fee prior to the beginning of each semester (3x per year). This fee is $165 for in-state students, and $220 for out-of-state residents. Upon enrolling you will automatically be invoiced this fee and registered for your first course, IDS 101, the Cornerstone Seminar. Course fees as of July 1 are $236 per credit for in-state students, and $310 per credit for out-of-state students. Registration for Fall courses begins July 5, and classes start August 27.
So does this mean that you get charged a semester fee during semesters you aren't taking Charter Oak courses, but are completing courses somewhere else? Or just when you're registered for courses at COSC? I'll send an email to my enrollment advisor. This probably won't be an issue for those who don't enroll until they complete all of the tests and transfer courses.
Here is the new cost calculator.
Cost Calculator - Home
I didn't know COSC offered credit banking services.
Credit Registry at Charter Oak State College
This is what I got after using the cost calculator. I entered that I would be transferring 114 credits leaving room for the two required courses at COSC.
Quote:If you are seeking a Bachelor's degree, you need a mimimum of 1 class per semester for 2 semesters from Charter Oak State College. Please bear in mind that all of your credits may not be transferable and you might be required to take additional courses in order to earn your degree.
So I guess you have to take the cornerstone course first during one semester and then the capstone course the next semester? That would mean you would have to pay for at least two semesters, right?
From COSC's cost calculator:
Year 1
Application Fee: $75
Tuition: $1,860
College Fees: $440
Books: $222
Estimated Costs:
$2,597

The new tuition and fees are cheaper for those testing out and more expensive for those taking courses at Charter Oak.
Old Tuition and Fees testing out:
$733 annual fee
$45 registration fee per semester for two semesters
$275 per credit for 6 credits
Total: $2,473
New Tuition and Fees Testing out:
$220 semester fee for two semesters
$310 per credit for 6 credits
Total: $2,300
You save $173!
Completing 30 credits at COSC under old fee structure:
$733 annual fee
$45 registration fee per semester for two semesters
$275 per credit for 30 credits
Total: $9,028
Completing 30 credits at COSC with new fee structure:
$220 per semester for two semesters
$310 per credit for 30 credits
Total: $9,740
You spend $712 more. If you're taking the maximum 45 credits per year, you'll spend $1,367 more.

Hi There! Glad you posted this and sorry I didn't have a chance to respond. I put up a thread a while back, but I think you've done a great comparison of course vs. testing costs.
I do have one thought... is there a reason why you would have to take your cornerstone and capstone in two separate semesters? I think you could do it in one. One semester has a term one and term two. I would think that you could do the capstone in term one and the cornerstone in term two if both courses were offered in the eight week format. Also, you might even be able to do the capstone and the cornerstone at the same time unless the capstone is a pre-req for the cornerstone. (Does that make sense?)
At any rate, I am very glad that COSC is breaking down payments into more manageable chunks. TESC may indeed work out to be cheaper, depending on the student, but they don't have payment options. You have to pay the entire tuition up front and that isn't easy for everyone.

I really don't know and that's what I'm wondering too. Maybe I'll ask my enrollment advisor.

Keep in mind that they may not have a quick answer or may not know. The Cornerstone is new so there may not be a set of rules surrounding it yet. You might also look at the list of pre-requisites for your Capstone class. If the Cornerstone is on the list of pre-req's, you're stuck. If it's not, then there may be some flexibility. Also, I haven't looked at the fall schedule. If there is an 8 week Cornerstone for term one and then an 8 week Capstone for term two, I think you're set. Not all concentrations have the 8 week Capstone option, I was lucky in that biz administration did..

Thanks Sanatone & Burbuja for doing all of the research and analyzing for COSC. My plan is to submit my application in July. Hmmm...maybe I'll delay that if I have to pay for a semester (summer) that I don't "use". My plan is to take COSC's cornerstone in the fall, and then the capstone class. Burbuja, would I need to finish all of my business classes before taking the capstone?

I applied at COSC months ago; I applied at all of the Big 3. I've already decided to attend TESC.

No need to rush the enrollment unless it motivates you to be an enrolled student. However, keep a close eye on COSC. I don't think they're planning on changing any requirements anytime soon, but if you suddenly notice that they plan on doing something differently, you can enroll and then are 'grandfathered' in under the rules in effect at the time you matriculate.
Glad that I can help out!
