If the name of the university doesn’t make someone pause and ask, “What school is that?”, then it’s usually a non-topic. Unless it’s a top-tier, widely recognized institution, the name rarely matters to anyone other than the degree holder. Whether it was my bachelor’s, master’s, or doctorate, no one has ever asked much beyond casual questions like, “That’s cool,” “Was it challenging?”, or “Are you planning to pursue another degree?”

My father, two decades removed from his graduation from TESU, still remembers how proud he felt earning that degree. For him, it wasn’t just about the credentials; it was the experience that sparked his belief in what education can make possible when you align it with your interests and take action.

No one that has actually been to Trenton would think it is a great city to name a school after. With that being said "The College of New Jersey" used to be called "Trenton State". TESU is the most legitimately sounding school name recommended here next to UMPI.

Tesla may be overrated, but wow, the saltiness of that site overpowers its information.

I never thought about the differences between the east coast and midwest schools before, but I think it holds up. I remember playing SEMO, and Missouri State and wondering why they had different mascots and why they were different schools. We had Rutgers Camden and Rutgers Newark, but it was still part of Rutgers, just a 'satellite campus'. Might just be what you're used to is what you expect. Either way, I like the name. I think a lot of those suggestions sound great too, but they went with the smallest change. It'd sound fine with or without the Thomas. I don't think CMU would sound good without the C.

How about Yell University ?

I mean, how weird is that ? Naming a university after a loud noise.
