I took the test and fell short by couple points. The flashcards did help a little but majority of questions were not covered. The test had 140 questions. There was a lot of questions in regard to Music which I thought were particularly difficult.
I'll have to wait 6 months before I can retake it, is there another or better way to prepare for it? anyone?

Pre-Study-Prep: Obtain or set up whatever materials I will need to study (IC Flashcards, REA Books, Standard Deviants Videos, Pass-Your-Class Guides, and Petersons Practice Exams.

Week One: Begin to read books, review flashcards, watch videos. Call your test center and make an appointment in advance as they sometimes require a few weeks advance notice).

Week Two: Re-read books, review flashcards, watch videos Take 1-2 practice exams* (REA, Petersons).

Week Three: Continue to review all materials, take additional/final practice exams. You should be passing these with room to spare. Take real exam at end of the week and PASS. In addition, you should have at this point already acquired pre-study-prep materials for your next exam so as not to waste time.[/COLOR]


* It should be noted that there are many (like me) who feel that the practice exams may be a bit more difficult and as such if you are able to "pass" a practice exam (with room to spare) you should do well when you sit the actual exam.

Something Else To Know

FACT: The lowest possible score is a 20. The highest possible is an 80.

FACT: Approx. 1/2 the questions on the test must be successfully answered to get a 50, or a pass.


THE HYPOTHESIS: In a 100 question test, such as Sociology and many others, there are only 60 possible points (between 20-80) for 100 questions.

60 points divided by 100 questions = .6pts

If each questions is worth .6 points, 50 correct questions = 50q X .6pts = 30pts

You must add 20 since 0 correct questions = 20pts.

30 points + 20 points = 50 points, or a pass.

Now: If each point in a 100 question test is worth .6 points, 100 questions X .6 points = 60; 60 + 20 = 80.

By this formula, answering 75 questions correctly would translate to a score of 65.

First, the chance that the next test you take will be the same test that you took are, probably, slim. Second, it's good that your score was close. You'll do better next time. You might want to try children's books about topics in areas of the test with lots of pictures. As I recall, pictures played a part in the test. It's good to get a feel for what the art/architecture/etc. of a culture. Again, as I recall, it was more important to have a breadth of knowledge rather than a depth. Check out http://www.freeclepprep. There is a section of overlapping exams. Maybe preparing for them will help with the Humanities CLEP. (Sort of back up into it.) Finally, there might be other exams that meet your educational requirement. Best of luck.

Sorry about the fail—Humanities is tricky; you just never know what random set of Qs is going to come your way. Can you take any other Humanities tests to fill your requirements? (Like the Literature tests)

I could take English composition but it seems a lot harder than any other CLEP tests. I do not know what to do next. If I have passed, I would have graduated and put my degree to bed. Now, it is going to cost me a great deal of pain.

IS English Comp. the only other option? Actually, it might be that a test that is more focused would be easier to take than a test that is more general. With the general test, it's often the luck of the draw question-wise.

How long did you prepare for the test? I am taking it next Monday and am hoping the hardest part will be the music (which I'm comfortable with...but who knows).
