Humanities CLEP
#1
Hi all,
I'm taking the Humanities CLEP in six days.. and am freaking out! I have no prior background in Humanities (I'm a Biology major... art and stuff, just not my thing). Anyways, I've been studying from the Comex book, the official CLEP study guide test banks, and online at free-clep-prep.com. I want to know if this is enough to pass the exam. If any other free sources are available, or if you have any insight on the examination, please let me know!!

It's not quite free, but I think the Excel spreadsheet and Word doc (both user compiled study guides) in the Exam Specific Thread (you need to be a paid member of InstantCert), are the best. I used just those to pass this CLEP.

I believe I have them. One is highlighted and they both have sections such as "poetry terminology", "non-fiction", "religion 1", etc? Also, do you think that it is passable with no background in humanities and only 1.5 weeks of studying?

It sounds like you do have those documents. Know them inside and out. Of course, not all of that will show up on the test, and some things you haven't studied will show up as well (just the nature of the beast).

As far as you being able to pass with about 1.5 weeks worth of study without much background . . . it might be. I'm not sure if there's any way to answer that with more certainty. I had almost no background in humanities myself (except classical music).

I think the humanities test is an extremely hard test to "know" if you're ready, just because it's so broad. That broadness, however, is also a help. It means that nothing will be too deep on the test. You're going to know some answers just from everyday life.

That test freaked me out, and I almost didn't take it just because I wasn't sure what all to study. Then, I decided to (quit being a wimp) take it and ahead of my predetermined schedule.

Of all the cleps I took, I scored the lowest on this one with just a 60. Still, it's a doable test if know what's in those study guides, I think.

Woohoooo i passed humanties with a score of 52, i know i just scraped through, but who cares, just wanted to pass. just prepared for 1.5 weeks, with instantcert and the excel sheet and word docs. Want a higher score just go through these throughly and you will definately get through. Im bad at memorizing and had no previous background of this subject, but yet i managed to pass. lots of questions on music and art.wishing the rest of you who will be attempting this exam all the best, it is a monster subject but trust me if you study the notes and instant cert, u r sure to pass!

Has anyone used this website: Humanities 101: Intro to the Humanities Course - Free Online Video Lessons | Education Portal
I've been watching all the videos and it seems to be a good study resource. Not sure if it's overkill or not.

I took the test today and passed with a 54!!!
So many music questions but the website I put up on this page yesterday was so helpful!
I also used the Comex CLEP Humanities Review book (about $15 on amazon) and the free-clep-prep.com website and test as well as the official CLEP College Board exam.
I still can't believe I passed with no background in humanities and only a few days of studying!

Thank you for sharing that site. I passed last night with a 59! I watched those videos and they helped quite a bit. Other than that, I memorized all of the Instantcert flashcards and watched the YouTube video of all the great operas in 10 minutes that is mentioned in this forum somewhere. That is all and I have only had one Humanities class in high school 20 years ago. What a relief. Oh, I also used the Peterson's practice quizzes and got in the 40's and 50's on those. I was a mess after getting those low scores because it really was a blow to my confidence level. I would suggest taking them and then reviewing them because they probably did help me on a couple of questions.

I just passed this test a couple days ago with a 66. They asked a LOT of music questions on my test, which just happened to be my biggest weakness. The one thing that absolutely helped me the most was taking the Analyzing Lit., American Lit., and English Lit. tests before taking the Humanities test. I also studied for the DSST Art of the Western World, which I took at the same time as the Humanities test.
