So I need three History credits in order to graduate. I have the option of taking Human / Cultural Geography DSST or the US History I CLEP. Ironically, both tests are on the same day but in different locations.
Any suggestions on which test I should go for?
Here are pros/cons
Human/Cultural Geography DSST:
Testing location closer to my home and work.
Free CLEP prep gives it a difficulty rating of 2/5
Cons: IC does not have flashcards and not much material available to study, but looking at the feedback, the materials seem like general knowledge.
$35 sitting fee, $80 test fee
US History I CLEP:
$15 sitting fee, $80 test fee
Location is further from home and work (more travel)
Free CLEP prep gives it also a difficulty rating of 2/5
IC flashcards and videos available to study
I don't really have a preference of either DSST or CLEP testing software itself. I've taken tests for both and both are ok. Although, I did score better on the DSST's than the CLEP.
I just can't make up my mind which one to choose.

I was surprised by the difficulty of some components of the HCG exam. It really wasn't as easy as I first thought, I wound up opting for a class through CSU-Pueblo instead.
You have likely been exposed to the info on the US History CLEP many times (at least if you went to elementary, middle, and high school in the US)
I would take the CLEP hands down...
With that said the Human Cultural Geography exam satisfies 3 separate Gen Ed requirements at COSC...Behavioral Science, Global, and Non US history...If considered that way I would definitely take the HCG.....though, of course, that's not what you asked.
Did you read through this link from freeclepprep?

I took both and the HCG was a bit harder for me since I know history well. I used the AP HCG book as a study resource and passed with a good grade after 3 days of studying intensely. I studied much more for the US History because I really like early American history and wanted to rock that test. I'd say take the history test because US history I is bread and butter for many college degrees.

Thank you both!
US History I it is. There's more material available to study and it never hurts to learn more about our past.

I see you've already made your decision but I wanted to chime in and say some of the questions on the test came word for word out of the Idiot's Guide to US History. Plus you only have to read half the book.
