I agree. I tried a Sophia economics course because it was free, and it took too long. It was faster for me to take a TECEP and Davar test. You can now take CLEPs at home, so it's easier than when I was working on my undergraduate degrees.

It's a misleading statement saying that you could take a CLEP exam faster than going through a course.
The reason why the statement would be misleading is that you are leaving out a bunch of facts required to make an informed decision, such as
IF you can pass without studying AND
(24% avg. at best pass rate for American Government)
(12% avg. at best pass rate for American Literature)
(33% avg. at best pass rate for Principles of Macroeconomics)
IF you don't waste a bunch of time trying to find an easy exam to pass AND
IF you can go through Modern States fast OR
IF you don't mind paying $100+ per CLEP exam

Sophia is by far faster. Faster by 50%, 2X, 3X, or even 4X+, depending on the person and the course taken.

No, it's not misleading. I took 4 exams in 2 hours and 20 minutes and passed all of them without studying. Prin of Management, Prin of Marketing, Intro to Computers, and Personal Finance. That's ~35 minute per exam. Please tell me which FOUR 3cr courses you can complete through Sophia in 35 minutes each. Oh, and one of them needs to be UL.

That's because if you know the material, an exam is THE quickest most efficient way to get credit. I did not say it was the easiest for everyone. I did not say you had to use a "for Dummies" book or read anything or whatever. I did not talk about cost. I did not stipulate any of those things. I simply said that when a poster said "CLEPs are no longer the most efficient way to earn college credits as there are now quicker alternatives", they are simply wrong.
Oh, and you don't get to stipulate "Sophia is by far faster. Faster by 50%, 2X, 3X, or even 4X+, depending on the person and the course taken" without me pointing out the obvious: IT DEPENDS ON THE PERSON.
If anyone can come up with a faster way to earn credits than via a TEST in a subject you already know, please tell me. CLEP, DSST, ACTFL, CompTIA, whatever test you can come up with that's worth credit, will be faster than any COURSE worth the same amount of credits you can take on that same subject.

Basically, I think it will go either way depending on the person, for example, let's say someone here is very good with computers, they can be blindfolded and still pass the CLEP exam going in cold, with or without the ModernStates voucher, bam and they're done in 2 hours and some time driving back and forth or at home in 1 day.
Having said that, for someone who is starting off and has no IT knowledge, they may be able to complete the Sophia.org Intro to IT in 1 day if they multi-task with two monitors and have an entire day or few hours to dedicate to that subject as they have absolutely nothing to do on that particular day and want to "get IT done".
