Example: I need a class called BUS 325 Financial Management, I seen one on SDC and it was called the same thing but it was only BUS 104. I assume its not the same thing due to the number difference? I think I glanced at this before but I'll give it a better look and compare. I am thinking maybe minoring in Market Information Systems so I do wanna try to do 2 or 3 UL classes before. I will leave 30 UL credits for UMPI, I am aware that is a requirement.

Thats what I am hoping: 3 classes. I was told to take American Government from IC. I will be doing that. I do not have the English completed from sophia because that gave me legit panic attack so I will be doing it thru UMPI.
I definitely want to finish all of my transfer credits before applying. Well, thats my goal. I signed up for sophia on July 10 and I've already done 8 courses. Would have been more but I missed a few days from a migraine and I did waste some time on English before I said heck no. LOL So I should be able to complete the rest of them withing a 2 weeks or so.
Thanks for your suggestions. They are appreciated

You're doing great on Sophia!

Be careful taking UL courses outside of UMPI. You need to take the majority of them at UMPI. You mention Financial Management above.  There is not an equivalent on Study.com. Please don't assume that Study.com courses transfer to UMPI based on their title as most do not.

Do you mean Management Information Systems as your minor? There's a Marketing concentration in the BABA starting in August.

Ashkir has made many posts on here about what he completed on Sophia and transferred to UMPI and graduated in 7 months. I've given you the list of what to take on Sophia, InstantCert, and Study.com already. You really have to watch the UL courses because of the requirements. Most have to be taken at UMPI. You'll need UL in the major and out of the major.

English at UMPI is MUCH faster and easier than Sophia. It's 1 paper at UMPI. Eng Comp 1 has 5 papers and 2 has 6-7 papers on Sophia. The grading on Sophia is also pretty harsh.

Here's the Study.com transfer equivalencies.

You all are so amazing and helpful on this forum! I would be so lost with out yous.
My major is supply chain management and I thought about adding to it with the Management Information Systems Minor (I called it the wrong name lol Sorry) Anywho, there are 6 classes (outside of gen end and electives for that) One can be taken on sophia (project management) and two are part of major business core classes, which only leaves 2 more UL for that so I figured it would be dumb not to do it!

I know that the name alone doesnt mean it transfers. So I will probably be taking quite a few at UMPI but it will be worth it to get the major and minor done.

Do you know if the CLEP english from modern states transfers to UMPI? I heard that is simple enough and if I understand correctly, comes in at 6 credits and that would then be one less class to take at UMPI

One of the classes I was told take was called Principles of Marketing from IC but I dont know what that transfers to at UMPI, Do you know?

You've replied to me before, so thanks for helping me again. I have a few classes I want to take on SDC that I cant find on SL or IC. I believe I have to take a biology with a lab? I was told to take Biology 107 with lab from SDC which I will be doing. I really hope I can start in October so I'll have to get cracking and get these classes done!

You need a science with a lab. As far as I'm aware, it doesn't specifically have to be biology but that is the easiest way to go about it. I think that Biology 107 would work but Biology 101L would almost certainly be quicker and easier.

I know how many classes can be done a session depends upon many things such as one's experience on the subject matter or available study time due to work and life etc. but of course some classes can be rated as easier or quicker to complete by comparison by the general population. For example the English Composition classes at Sophia which involve 5 - 7 papers versus 1 paper at UMPI.

So, has anyone here done any of the classes for the Bachelors in English with a concentration in Communication and journalism classes or the BLS with an education minor? or Management minor? Any opinions on how hard or time consuming?

I am trying to decide which degree to go for to be able to finish in Fall 1 and 2 sessions.

Great! I will definitely look at  that

I don't know how CLEP transfers to UMPI. It would have to be the written essay CLEP for it to be accepted I imagine. You can reach out to YourPace admissions and check with them.

The Principles of Marketing class on InstantCert has in the past transferred into UMPI as BUS330 Marketing Management. I transferred it in from a community college.

I'm working on my 7th and soon to be 8th class at UMPI for this term. I would say it entirely depends on how well you can write a paper with the correct APA format. I've really enjoyed the multiple choice exam finals as that's what I am best at. I also essentially grind out school work and trick my brain into thinking its a game. Each course is a level gained and one step closer to my goal. I would say 3-5 courses per term would be about right depending on what courses you are taking. I'm taking BLS with a minor in management.

Good evening,

It's been encouraging and helpful to read about UMPI's degrees and courses. Thank you to everyone who has posted to share their stories and experiences! I'm planning to start my studies at UMPI on the 30th.

This thread was of interest to me because I am trying to get a sense of how many courses I can expect to complete in a session while working 25-30 hours per week outside of my home. I understand that course completion depends on many factors, but I am writing now to request your input about the number of hours invested in your studies each week. Some contributors have noted that they work 40 hours per week, but many others have made no mention of employment outside of the home. I'm not sure if accomplishing 7-8 courses per session is only possible for a "full-time student" or if it can be expected for a person working PT or FT at a job in addition to their student learning.

Could you please share your experience with UMPI courses and how many hours per day and per week you are investing in your studies? That would be immensely helpful to me and much appreciated!  Smile

I know this may not be helpful, but it really does depend on many factors. I've been working full time and have a lot of medical treatments so I had limited time. On average, I devoted one full weekend day (abt 6 hrs) and shorter 1-2 hr sessions 2 to 3 times a week, sometimes using my lunch break to study or work on assignments. I finished 9 courses, plus one on SDC, but I had extensive experience and training in 6 of them and was at least somewhat familiar with the others. I mostly just needed electives, so I got to choose most of them and tried to do one time-consuming class while using my second slot for shorter courses or ones that were easier for me. I also sped through the ones I was really interested in. For example, I worked in HR for 15 years and enjoy the field, so I finished HR management in about 2.5 hrs. I took 2.5 weeks for a different class I knew little about and struggled to focus on it. It also depends on how much work is assigned. I had classes with few milestones and others that required five or six 3-4 page essays before the final. If possible, block off time or set a schedule and do your best to stick to it. You can be flexible... if I missed a few days or felt behind, I canceled weekend plans or stayed up later to do more. Anyway, I think you'll be fine. Best of luck to you!
