Taking a generic view, this is a post for anyone who gets in a bind when legitimate credits aren't recognized. It's about how to use one school's bureaucracy to overcome a bureaucratic problem at another school.
I have brick and mortar A.S., B.A., and M.B.A. degrees. I've been accepted into a brick and mortar B.S.N. program. The registrar of the nursing school says I haven't taken English Composition II. But I have. The professor says I did. The registrar of the school I took it from says I did and provided an official statement to that effect.
Since getting my degrees, I made a 53 on the CLEP College Composition with essay. The nursing school itself does not grant credit for CLEP, but does accept it when another school lists it on an official transcript.
If the registrar doesn't yield on this, I'm wondering if I should get an associate's degree from one of the online schools. That's assuming I'd get credit for English Composition II. Which school could grant the credit and the degree the fastest? When would it be awarded? I would have to have an official transcript at the nursing school by mid-May.
I'm hoping for logic to prevail, but in case it doesn't, I need to make plans now. I'm sure other people have had transcript surprises at the last minute. What solutions do the great minds here have?

Okay why would you need an associates degree just for English Comp II? Well maybe the nursing school will not take what you have or take your Clep English it doesn't mean you have to get a whole new degree. I would take English at your local CC if your nursing school BSN will take it. Summer classes are starting in May for most school. You can also do English Comp at BYU independent study, or LSU independent study. You might also want to look into Clovis CC. They have online classes for very little money.
I just don't see getting a whole new degree for one class.

I have to have an official transcript showing credit for English Composition II by mid-May. It is impossible to complete an English course from any community college or junior college by then. I could start a mini-term course in mid-May, but I need the course completed by mid-May or I don't matriculate at the nursing school.
I don't know if I need a degree or not. I do need a transcript showing credit for English Composition II. Would any of the Big Three be able to provide such a transcript by mid-May? If I had to get a degree to get such a transcript, it would be worth the expense.

Ok, in case anyone was doubting, nursing school is another animal all together :willynilly:
My first thought, go to the registrar at the BSN college and ask if they'll accept English Comp 2 from Straighterline since it's ACE evaluated. If so, it's going to cost you $400 but you'll be finished ahead of your deadline. And hey, after having 12 credits in English comp, you'll be one damn articulate nurse
I'm trying to work the AA degree angle. I understand why you would do this, I just don't think you can do it fast enough. The only places you can try that would be COSC or TESC, and graduation deadlines are not going to jive. This brings me to another thought. Can you go back and ask (beg) one of your undergrad degree schools to allow you to add in your CLEP exam? That would be the simple solution, and free. Then you could resubmit your transcript with the CLEP on it. Also, when you say your first school gave you a letter saying you took comp 2, how is that different than them providing an official transcript? Was it laundered through? Sorry for all the questions, just trying to wrap my brain around a solution for you. There is one, and we'll find it.
Oh, one more thing, are you willing to provide the name of the BSN school? If so, I'll scour their catalog and policy and see if anything pops out that you could use.

You don't need a whole degree to have a transcript... can't you just pick a school that has a cheap enrollment and application fee, take whatever CLEP's you need, send the scores to that school, and then send an official transcript to your nursing school?

Sure, if someone can provide a recommendation for a school. The problem is finding a school that will put CLEP credits on a transcript that the nursing school can receive by mid-May. What school grants 6 hours of English composition credit for a 53 on the CLEP College Composition with essay test?
DeVry and Strayer don't give 6 hours of CLEP for that test. University of Phoenix does. It's unlikely a brick and mortar would admit me in time and provide a transcript with the credit considering I wouldn't have any course work done at the school granting the credit.

I can't recommend a specific school but I will say this: there are thousands of colleges out there with online programs, I can imagine there are plenty out there that will give the full 6 credits for college comp. Try local colleges too...

I second Allison's suggestion of taking an independent study course. My son completed his course at Adams State in about a month and had a graded transcript one week later. You could contact the instructor, explain the situation and find out if its doable. Judging by the syllabus it should be.

A great idea, but the FAQ says this:
The minimum course completion period for print-based courses and open enrollment online courses is six weeks from the date of registration.
But Adams is a great find. My son could benefit from taking courses there.
