How do I take a TECEP?
#1
Hi,

On my new concentration plan, I have added a TECEP for sales managment. I've been in sales my entire career, so it should be a great test. Only problem - I can't figure out how to schedule this. I created an ID at ProctorU, but they didn't give me an option to select COSC.

Yikes! How do non-TESC students take TECEPS?

Thanks!

You can't take a TECEP through ProctorU (yet) They are still pencil and paper exams that must be sent to a local proctor that you must get approved in advance.

Sad This looks complicated... so basically, I need to find someone to proctor the test or fly out to New Jersey.

How easy is it to find someone to proctor? I know that the test center I go to states on their site that they do not proctor other school's exams.

Would love to hear everyone's experience with this.

Not complicated. Don't fly anywhere. Proctors can include college testing centers (try your local Community College or University testing center).

lol.. I actually just looked through my client list at work to see if I could schedule a business trip in NJ. Since no one is there that needs a visit, I will need to forget that idea.

So, you just call up your local community college and see if they'll agree to proctor?

UPDATE: It took a few phone calls, but I have found a proctor!

FYI - for anyone in the Denver area, Regis will agree to serve as proctor.

Ok.. now I need to figure out how to schedule, but hopefully that is the easy part.

One more update... for you non-TESC students out there, I don't recommend taking many TECEP's. I just realized it will cost $177 per credit to take. :ack:

WOW... if I didn't have such a strong sales background I REALLY would look for a different UL credit option. The books to study cost 30 bucks USED + almost $600 bucks to take this test + proctor fee.. omg this is $$$$$$$$$$

I'm glad you found a proctor already. Someone on the forum mentioned being able to get one for free at their local library.

Local libraries usually offer free proctors for TECEP test. If I were you I would not pay for the specific book recommended, I think somehow TESC gets something from that. I took a couple of TECEP's and any book that covers the subject will be fine, especially if you have prior knowledge. TECEP's are usually not any harder than DSST maybe a little harder than CLEP and not as hard as ECE. I hope this comparison helps. Of course this is just IMHO

Thanks so much for the info. I like the library idea. I'm still not sure about buying the text. There are only three posts in the specific feedback area about this TECEP. One user posted a spreadsheet of terms, and I knew most of them on the sheet. I think I need to pay a visit to the library to check for books as well.. this is getting so expensive!
