How difficult are UoP classes?

So let's say I transfer 90 credits to UoPeople and just need to take 10 classes at UoPeople.

For those who have done these classes, how does a typical course go? How long does it take? How many points is the proctored final usually (like half your grade or only like 10%) etc.? Can you pass a class with D? 

Any info from current/former students would be very helpful!

I haven't run into the D issue, but if I remember from the course catalog, if you end up with one or more Ds you might be put on academic probation-- which basically means you need to stop getting Ds within a few terms or they might suspend you until they feel you're ready to come back.

As for the difficulty, that depends on the course and the students' preferences. I am highly self directed and am used to teaching myself things using a textbook and or online sources with very little help from a tutor or teacher, but if that is difficult for you then succeeding at University of the People is going to be a learning curve. Take UNIV 1001 seriously and that will give you a good start.

All the classes I have taken so far have one or more written assignments every week. Discussion posts are basically like writing a short paper and, in my experience, held up to that same standard. Most of the weeks where there are not two writing assignments, there is one writing assignment and a quiz.

I haven't had any proctored exams yet. I think they vary from being like 10% to 30% of the grade. Take that with a grain of salt.

Depends on you tbh, if you like math and cs (assuming this is CS?) you will have fun. If not, you won't.
They are time consuming though, every week you would need to write forum post and reply to other students, (1 your post, 3 replies to other students), 4-5 weeks out of the 8 at least there is an assignment (a paper 1-2 pages, solving a problem, or a program), every week a learning journal.
the 100 is divided usually like this (30-50 final exam (Depends on course), 20-30 2 graded quiz (mini final exams), and the rest is assignments, forum posts and learning journals).
To get a D you would have had to put no effort at all. C is achievable with just normal study up to B. A requires absolute commitment, A+ requires weaponized autism cause you can't get n 8 on anything which requires a lot of finesse with dealing with other students and appealing to instructor every week, and not missing a mark on any exam or quiz.

Never aim for a D, aim for an A

Depending on your degree, there are only a few classes that will have a proctored final. It's less than 50% of the classes... It shouldn't be too hard to achieve a pass and even shoot for a higher grade as you're limited to a couple of classes at a time.

Even a B over a D. A couple of Ds and your GPA will be trashed then you'll be kicked out of the program. Most programs require a minimum of a 2.0 GPA and a C or higher in required courses.

The point I'm making, like the other people before me that have ushered the same advice, is to strive to do the best you can. No sense in trying to make sense in risk calculating what a D will do to you as long as you're doing well. If you get an A, awesome. If you get a B, great. If you're concerned about D's, it sounds like the individual needs to do some more prep work.

Not officially, but that has not stopped anyone. You will often find blantant AI abusers in the discussion forums. 

Uopeople doesn't have a school-wide AI policy, so each instructor can decide whatever they want. There have been courses where it seems like every single post on the DF forum was AI-generated, and there have been courses where the instructor accused everyone of AI and deducted everyone's points (even if we didn't use it).

Post-AI, it's a shitshow, but it's not uniquely a Uopeople problem (we just perceive it more because of discussion forums). Academia as a whole needs to figure out some way to deal with AI.

I would say that UoPeople *does* have a schoolwide policy, but it may not always be enforced, since AI use is hard to prove except in the most egregious cases.

Every undergrad student goes through AI, plagiarism, and academic honesty policies during the first course, Online Education Strategies. The policy for students re:AI is that you are not to use it to write or outline your assignments. It is okay to use it to make practice quizzes or brainstorm ideas for assignments. Grammar and language checkers are fine.

In terms of discussion forums, I honestly see my professors (not all, but some) using it more than students. I have one prof who gives lengthy responses to each discussion post; they go up really quickly and are 350-500 words each, so I can't see how they wouldn't be AI. Profs, as far as I know, are not prohibited from using AI to write content. I wish they were. These mini-essays contribute less to the discussion than a couple pointed sentences would.
