Need to CLEP 5 courses by May! Suggestions Needed!
#1
Hi everyone. I am trying to CLEP 5 courses by the end of the semester to graduate in the summer. I've never taken a CLEP before but have always done pretty well at tests. Any suggested study materials or strategies for these exams would be greatly appreciated.

Business Law
Principles of Management
Information Systems and Computer Applications
Human Growth and Development
Biology or Chemistry (Not sure which one to take but this is definitely the one I am most nervous about)

Thanks!

1. Join IC
2. Read the forum feedback for each exam
3. Buy the most suggested material mentioned in the feedback.
4. Begin with your strongest subject
5. Read the boards for study tips

I might suggest Info systems or management first because we did not find them too difficult but that's just my opinion.

You've found a great resource here. The folks on this forum are amazing and very helpful.

BTW, lots of non Science people have enjoyed DSST Astronomy if you can substitute.

Passed:

American Gov, US History 1, US History 2, Computing, Info Systems, Humanities, Sociology, Art, Western Civ I, Western Civ II, Social Sciences and History, Civil War, Business, Vietnam, A&I Lit, Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice, American Lit, English Lit, Astronomy, Supervision, 1 FEMA, Total -79

operalady's suggestions are right on. I will add:

Unless you already have knowledge of Chemistry, I would lean toward Biology, I think you will find more resources for prep. Are you sure you can't take the Natural Science CLEP? It's a combo, 1/2 Bio, 1/2 everything else, and very passable.

If you have a good public library (and/or campus library) you may be able to get by without buying all materials. Companion sites for textbooks often have good study materials (powerpoints, quizzes and notes) for free.

:iagree: Also as someone who loves chemistry I will still say unless you have chemistry leanings Biology may be easier. But as mentioned if you can do Natural science it may be better yet. I am looking into switching out geology in my plan and putiing Natural Science. I have 6-7 test planned by the middle of June, it is doable you just need time and family support.

If you've never taken a CLEP before, I would start with joining IC, running through all the Specific Exam threads for what you're planning on doing, and starting off with Management or Info Sys. Those are the easiest two on your list that I can vouch for personally, and clobbering those tests will be a good way to build up your confidence. I don't know how many distractions you will have, but I think May is very doable. If you're like me and don't have a family or job to worry about, it's far too slow a pace. YMMV, of course.

Thanks for the helpful tips everyone.

Unfortunately, the Natural Science route isn't an option for me but I think I'll go with biology as you suggest. I think I'll take that one last as I think it will require the most preparation.

Again, thank you all. I'll let everyone know how it goes.
