How Many Colleges Accept Non-Military ACE Credits?
#11
In Texas, all public schools have to accept anything that was used to satisfy a core requirement at another public school in Texas. Texas law also has a list of some major courses that are guaranteed transfer. The best thing one can do is filter alternative sources of credit through Central Texas College, Dallas Community College District, Tarleton State University (for criminal justice), or any other public school in the state that has liberal policies for awarding credits for CBEs, certifications, prior learning, etc. CTC accepts ACE credits, DCCD has a partnership with Straighterline, and Tarleton State University awards a lot of credits for peace officer training.

Quote:© Transfer of Credit--Completed Core Curriculum. If a student successfully completes the 42 semester credit hour core curriculum at a Texas public institution of higher education, that block of courses must be substituted in transfer to any other Texas public institution of higher education for the receiving institution's core curriculum. A student shall receive academic credit for each of the courses transferred and may not be required to take additional core curriculum courses at the receiving institution.

Quote:(e) Transfer of Credit--Core Curriculum Not Completed. Except as specified in subsection (f) of this section, a student who transfers from one institution of higher education to another without completing the core curriculum of the sending institution must receive academic credit within the core curriculum of the receiving institution for each of the courses that the student has successfully completed in the core curriculum of the sending institution. Following receipt of credit for these courses, the student may be required to satisfy the remaining course requirements in the core curriculum of the receiving institution.

I can't get the Texas Administrative Code link to work.

Here's what it looks like at my local CA CC:

http://www2.palomar.edu/pages/articulati..._Chart.pdf

It specifically shows that while some CLEP exams can be used at the CC towards an AA or to fulfill Gen Ed, some will not transfer to a CSU school. But, at least they tell you up front, and make things very, very clear.

I don't mind the rules, as long as I know them ahead of time. And the CA CC's are VERY clear on advising students on transferring to the 2 different systems. Back in 89, there were 3 sheets of paper for each major at the college (in a rack on the wall): 1 for a straight AA at the CC, 1 for transferring to the CSU system (with or without an AA), and 1 for transferring to the UC system (with or without an AA). The still differentiate between the 2 systems, and provide info for each one separately.
