This is a little off topic, but I like to pass on the information to everyone I know who wears glasses. Once you have a prescription, you can purchase very affordable glasses at zennioptical.com. I paid less than $40 for my last set. They have lots of frames to choose from and are available with photo-chromatic, tinted, anti-glare, etc.
There is a company in Italy that now owns something like 70% of the frame market and they have driven the price of frames through the roof. They own LensCrafters, Pearle Vision, Target Optical, Sears Optical, Oakley, Ray Ban, Sunglass Hut, and many others. They have close to a monopoly and are using it to charge way too much for frames.

I heard about them a long time ago. How do you deal with the fitting? I always feel like I'm going to break my frames when I have to adjust the; I actually almost did.

I prefer plastic frames, so there isn't much adjusting. When I had metal frames with nose pieces, I just bent the nose piece by hand. One thing you have to do is get a good measurement of your current glasses to make sure you buy the correct size. Arm length and total width are the most important. There is some wiggle room as long as you don't buy something too different. I have a big head, so I have to make sure to get a larger size.

There's a chain called America's Best that gives you 2 pair of standard glasses and the exam for less than $90.... However, those are base model glasses....no poly-carbonate lenses or any of the other fancy bells and whistles...it's a good deal for people who don't need thick glasses. Unfortunately for me, I have to pay a lot...my glasses are strong enough to see into the future...
When I got my exam this last week, I got a decent pair of glasses with poly-carbonate lenses, and a nice pair of sunglasses. Cost me around $200, including the exam.

Ugh. I have to pay extra for special lenses since my prescription is so strong, otherwise, my lenses wouldn't fit right in metal frames. I was afraid that I was going to be legally blind at the rate my vision was worsening, but the worsening slowed down when I stopped growing as the doctor predicted.
