Hi all. I made the mistake of starting a new job and MBA at the same time. I knew it was a risk but went forward anyway. The job turned out to be much bigger than expected. At this point I'm trying to decide what to do. The school only has $375 and will extend the 1st class (very generous). I will finish it but may not continue (for a while). I really want to learn the MBA material but don't "Need" the degree. Has anyone done self-study in this area? I'd like to review what I can until the job relaxes (or I find another one). So far I have a couple books and a Udemy course. I wish we a Study.com-like program. I love the learning style. Thank you

The closest thing to "self study" for an MBA is (IMO), an MBA from ENEB. The whole degree is only around $300 (I forget how much it is these days) and I think you have up to 18 months to finish. If you're lucky, you might even be able to get that MBA evaluated and transfer a class or two back to your original MBA program.

I'd focus on the new job at this time. Then when things let up maybe look into the MBA at WGU because that you could do at your own pace. You wouldn't be tied down to a semester schedule.

Definitely prioritize the new job.
It kind of really depends on what your focus is. MBAs are like MFAs: people go out and spend a ton of money when the information is available for free. That’s a serious oversimplification, and it misses a lot of the benefits, but it highlights a good point.
You’re going to have a hard time finding self-study courses. Rasmussen’s free eCertificates seem like they may help. They are self-paced and FREE. While maybe not being graduate level, they’ll help keep your head in the game until you get back to your studies:

You might find that books are the way to go. Find Harvard or Wharton or whomever’s reading lists and knock a little out each night. You’ll be getting the same information as other MBA students and you can do it in your own time. Write reports on what you read to help keep your analyzation and writing skills sharp. Here’s a random list to get you started:

Lastly, there are a ton of recorded lectures and MOOCs to choose from. Search YouTube and Yale/MIT/whatever free courses.
You may not be getting credits through these methods, but you’re keeping your student mind active. Also, you may find you picked up some great, helpful information by diversifying your pool of knowledge.
Hope that helps, bud.

I suspect the HAU will work with you to extend out your completion. Right now you need to focus on the new job; take awhile to settle in anywhere.

Hmm, that $375 seems like a deposit for the MBA at HAU that has classes which starts March 28... You can do exactly what others have mentioned, including allvia. I highly suggest focusing mainly on your job, get familiar with the duties/role... having said that, you can still start the HAU program with just one course, you don't have to take a full course load. Unless you have many many commitments, you can defer your entry at another term by asking the dean/director for permission to do so...

Like allvia and BJ said, definitely communicate with the school. These degrees are designed for working adults and they have a wealth of experience dealing with situations like yours. It keeps them in the loop so you don’t just ghost them, and it will help alleviate your anxiety about the situation.

Thanks all! Yes, HAU - wonderful people.
This is the highest paying job I've ever had but now seeing part of the reason why I knew it required leadership, project management, etc... (thus why the MBA seemed like a great fit). However the structure/history is really jacked up. Going to open another topic in a minute....
