Are there any High School Homeschoolers earning their college credits here on the forums? I am here learning and helping my daughter earn credits. So far, she has 4 Math courses earned through ALEKS for a total of 12 college credits that we banked over at ACE. Please share! Thanks. Debbie

I have 2 younger sisters who are doing dual credit. They finish their HS course, study specifically CLEP-related materials, then take the test.

There is a particular resource i found to be very helpful. You can read through this whole page and will get a good general idea on how to get credits for both college and high school at the same time.

I am in high school. You can see what I have completed in my signature. There are a few others on here, too.
You are in the right place. The board members here are very helpful.

The only caution I would give, is that some credit options limit your child's choices down the road. The most easily transferrable and most widely accepted are college courses earned through regionally accredited colleges (online or in person). Your local community college is the best source for on the ground but there are several VERY affordable online options through community colleges in other states. Testing out is different, but in that case, you either use curriculum you've got, or choose something already put together that coordinates with the same learning of the exam. CLEP, AP, and DSST exams are in this group.
After those two options, acceptability and transferability start to get limiting....but that depends on the end goal.
Many people here already know they want to test out of their whole degree, and or attend one of the big 3 (online), and those schools are VERY generous about accepting other credit sources. For a high school student opting for traditional college attendance, you can (and should in my opinion) get a HUGE chunk of gen eds and maybe a few fun electives completed at home in high school. Testing out / attending the big 3 is an option, it's not the only option, and it's not the BEST option for everyone. Just keep that in mind as you dig around here, and always let the GOAL dictate the plan, not the other way around.
Does your child have a career/college idea/plan, or are you just feeling out the idea of earning credit?

There are definitely homeschool families here. There is a CLEP for Homeschool Yahoo Group full of families going this route.

I am a member of (and highly recommend) both Jennifer's Facebook page and the Yahoo Group. My homeschooled daughter has taken and passed two DSST's so far and will have 9 credits when she turns 13 next year. We're not sure what the outcome of this journey will be in terms of what school and when, but we're enjoying the process!
CLEP's and DSST's passed: Fund. of Counseling, Tech Writing, Here's to your Health, Intro to Computers, Analyzing and Interpreting Lit, Human Growth and Devel, Intro to Soc., Crim Just, Law Enforcement, Env. and Humanity, Astronomy.
Completed 2 PLA's through LearningCounts.org.
Completed Capstone at TESC.
