Hi, I am a freshman, and after reading this forum, I am glad that I found about about CLEP when I did. I am going to Newberry College (in SC). I am getting the LIFE Scholarship....and to keep it...you must have atleast 30 hours each year....I am about 6 hours short. Luckily, I looked at Newberry's CLEP policy, and there scores for credit seem lower then other schools. The highest score needed is a 52 and thats in intro to computers CLEP. The lowest required is a 35, the rest are like 44, 47 ect. I am thinking of taking Intro to computers first, then maybe marketing, and managment. I have another question, I am blind in one eye, so I get 50% extra time on the CLEP test, can I still take it on the computer? (Is the computer the one keeping time, or is it the proctor?). I would like to use the computer so I can get my score right after the test. Thanks for any info!

Great question...don't know if the proctor can extend the time. I would call the testing center that you plan on taking it at and ask them. If you are properly prepared for the Management and Marketing, then the extra time shouldn't be a big issue. The IC flashcards will prepare you for those two exams.

Hello.
First, you stated some of your college's CLEP policies. I would definitely score at least a 50+ (which is the ACE recommended score) for the vast majority of exams. I would hate for you to transfer to another school for some reason and that institution not accept your credit because it was too low.
Second, definitely call CLEP (College Board) as well as your local testing center about any accomodations that you may need.
Third, I just wanted to take this time to welcome you to our academic paradise!!!hilarious I pray that you get as much out of this forum as I have, and be sure to give as much you get!!!
Welcome and good luck on your educational journey.

I'm taking classes at my college (TWU) in addition to taking cleps. Since you asked for advice, I'm happy to oblige.
Last semester I earned 24 hours of college credit. Yep, 24. Some people here who are doing primarily clep & dsst exams do much much more. I'm extremely impressed by their ability. It took me a while to figure out that as happy & amazed as I am for them, the rate they're accruing hours was never going to work for me. I had to make peace with that before I was happy with my own progress. The reality is that I work full time, am married with 3 kids, and go to college. Last semester I took 2 "full" semester upper division level courses, and 2 express classes. I also took & passed 4 clep tests. I might've gotten 5 but the testing center that I go to only offers exams at night on Thursday at 6 p.m. Then the testing center had several weeks when they were blocked out for evening testings because of finals, and then were closed for the holidays. So I had to wait until the first Thursday they were open in January to take my 5th exam. Anyway, I digress....
It is very possible to balance college hours & cleps. It's great when a subject you're taking in school has a clep that's similar to it. (Example, American Literature class & analyzing literature clep). However, that's only happened once for me. The rest I had to just learn.
Here's what I do. I break out the syllabii from all of my classes and I chart out on a calendar when my B&M courses have requirements due. I do this group first because it's the school that I'm spending the most money and time on, and their deadline gets topping billing in my book Then I mark family or work situations that I absolutely can't get out of attending. I take a step back, and look at where I'm at. It didn't take me long to figure out how many hours my school will take, and how it will apply them. Once I had that, I had a plan on how to get ready for them, and in what order I wanted to study for them.
Once you know the first one or two that you want to take, look around for suggested resources. The specific threads that I've seen have helped me. Someone mentioned comex for my social science test and I ordered it overnight delivery so that I could sit up and review it before today's test. It was very very helpful. Anyway, after you gather your resources, you decide how you're going to study. I'm normally pretty accurate on my personal estimations of when i'll be ready. That's when I test. But be very very aware of what you've got going on around you. I know I have a major paper due on april 25, so I chose the next week to do my clep test. That way you don't have too much pressure on you.
I'm not sure that I've explained this best -- I'm pretty sleepy right now, and am about to go to sleep - but let me know what I can do to help you on your journey.
 Cleps:
Introduction Business Law 65
Principles of Management 70
Principles of Marketing 71
A&I Literature 68
