Help with degree plan
#1
Hey, just looking for some guidance in earning a degree. I've attended a few community colleges and earned some online credits. I'm currently employed and I need a degree for advancement, so I'm trying to earn a degree within the next year or so if possible. I need at least an associate degree for this promotion, but a bachelor's would be awesome if possible. Major/subject matter isn't too important.

These are the courses I've completed so far through those community colleges...

Western Civ I
Intro to Political Science
Principles of Sociology
US History 1
US History 2
Art Appreciation
General Biology
English Composition 1
Oral Communication
American Federal Government
Introduction to Philosophy
First Aid + CPR
Cultural Geography
20th Century American Literature
Basic Psychology
Educational Psychology
Abnormal Psychology
Developmental Psychology
Business Communication

I've also completed Beginning Algebra and Intermediate Algebra through ALEKS, two NFA courses, and all of the courses approved for credit at TESC (and then some).

I'm not sure which school would be best for me, but I'm leaning towards TESC since I'm a New Jersey resident and it would probably be my cheapest option.

There are plenty of people on here who can help plug in your credits to TESC. I'm a COSC guy, so here's what your credits look like with regards to the General Education requirements at COSC. The red text is my suggestions for fulfilling the respective requirements.

You need 60 credits to graduate with an associates degree. After meeting these requirements, (including the cornerstone course) you would certainly be eligible for an associates....also, all of your Gen Ed requirements would already be met for a Bachelors at COSC.

Written Communication (6 credits)
English Composition 1
CLEP English Composition or TECEP Technical Writing
Oral Communication (3 credits)
Oral Communication
Information Literacy (1-3 credits)
This requirement is met by the Cornerstone Course
Ethical Decision-Making (3 credits)
DSST Ethics in America
or
DSST Ethics & Business

U.S. History/Government (3 credits)
US History 1
US History 2
Non-U.S. History or Culture (3 credits)
Western Civilization 1
Global Understanding (3 credits)
Cultural Geography
Literature and Fine Arts (3 credits)
Art Appreciation
Modern American Lit.
Social/Behavioral Sciences (3 credits)
Intro. Sociology
Abnormal Psychology
Educational Psychology
Developmental Psychology
Mathematics (3 credits)
Aleks College Algebra
Natural Sciences (7-8 credits)
General Biology (assuming a lab is included)
CLEP Natural Science

If I were a New Jersey resident, I would definitely go with TESC. Check out the spreadsheets in my signature. They should give you a place to start plugging in courses.
TESC 2015 - BSBA, Computer Information Systems

TESC 2019 - 21 Post-bachelor accounting credits

Thank you. Is it better to complete as many of the requirements as possible before applying, or should I take some courses through the school itself? I'd like the out of pocket expenses to be as little as possible, and I do receive pell grants.

As UptonSinclair noted, If you reside in N.J enroll at TESC you'll get a Pell grant plus if you apply for a State grant early enough you'll get a NJ grant too! so its a no brainer to enroll in TESC. The cost of enrolling are expensive, my reason for not going to TESC. My Pell grant along with my partnership program allows me to get 12 credits for about $600 out of pocket at EC and transferred in my Irish GPA which was nice. The more work you do before you enroll the better, that way you aren't counting the months go by while you accumulate credit. However if you qualify now for a Pell Grant and may not in the future you should apply while that window is open. I got married, so in 2014 I won't qualify for a grant, my wife makes too much money.
Don't forget that gaining college credit by taking exams is one of the reason's we're here. That's mainly possible through the flashcards made available by the owner of this forum : InstantCert Plus of course your hard work in learning and reviewing
