Help me finish my degree: TESC (TESU) BA in Communication (evaluation included)
#1
Ok, so I passed the English Composition CLEP, Analyzing Lit CLEP and Technical Writing DSST. I am waiting to hear back about my Principles of Public Speaking DSST. Which tests can I take to satisfy area A and area B Group 2 under Communications? Do you have any insight why TESC used classes that have a D to satisfy the requirements in certain areas rather than some of the classes under Other? Do you think the Institutes class will really credit me with Ethics credit? Any advice? Do I have a residency requirement for TESC other than the capstone class?

Yes, I was also wondering about the other questions. any dsst or clep tests I can take.

"Which tests can I take to satisfy area A and area B Group 2 under Communications? Do you have any insight why TESC used classes that have a D to satisfy the requirements in certain areas rather than some of the classes under Other? Do you think the Institutes class will really credit me with Ethics credit? Any advice? Do I have a residency requirement for TESC other than the capstone class?"

The ethics class transfers in as PHI-379 Issues in Ethics and is worth 2 credits, you need three. As far as the residency requirements, it depends on which tuition plan you use (12 credits for associates/24 for bachelors)
Thomas Edison State University: Selecting the Right Tuition Plan

You can use TECEPs to help fulfill the residency requirement if you go that route. I would suggest you look over the different plans at TESC.

I am not sure about other tests under CLEP/DSST except what is listed in the link. You can always use TECEPs or Uexcels.

Hopefully someone else will chime in with other options for you.

Below are a few recommendations for area of study -

*Straighterline Intro to Communications COM-108 (Fundamentals of Speech)
Straighterline Business Communications COM-300
TECEP Public Relations Thought & Practice COM-210
* Speak to Advising to make sure this does not duplicate with the DSST you are using for communications in general education. I don't think it will, if memory serves the DSST transfer as COM-209, but you should confirm to be sure.
In the past these exams were used in communications area of study. You would need to confirm with Advising if this is still the case.
TECEP Introduction to News Reporting JOU-110
TECEP Managerial Communications MAN-373
TECEP Marketing Communications MAR-321

I think you have 30 days from the date your evaluation was prepared to dispute use of your courses/credits. You can set up a phone appointment and go over the evaluation with an Advisor. They can move things around for you at that time.

Good luck!

There are a few TECEPs that might satisfy the communications are of study. Excelsior has a few exams. CSU Global credit by exam has a few. I think straighterline may have one and Saylor may have one. Sophia has one or two. Just be careful some of the exams and courses may duplicate.
