Help me decide! (please)
#1
Choices for my next test are:

American Government
US History II
Intro. to Psychology

I just scored a 72 today on US History I after about a week and a half of studying. I also took Intro. to Sociology a couple of weeks ago and scored in the mid-60's but with a lot less studying.

I am leaning toward Intro. to Psychology. Please let me know which test you think I should take next. Thank you for your help!

You sound strong in both areas....whichever you like will probably succeed. American Gov. has a reputation as a difficult exam. US History two is obviously something you know how to study for so it's a great choice. Plus most are familiar with the subject matter of the last 50 years as they have lived closer to it and hear or experience much of it.

Psychology isn't generally considered to be particularly difficult, it and Sociology have a lot in common....I think you should go with your gut (Psych) Smile

I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this).  Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.

If you plan on attending public schools in Texas, do not CLEP American Government. Some schools say it is equivalent to GOVT 2301, others say it is equivalent to GOVT 2302. If you attend two different schools with different policies, it's a big mess. Additionally, to get a degree from a public school in Texas, you must take a government course that includes Texas government.

Psychology and sociology overlap, so I recommend taking sociology next.
63 CLEP Sociology
75 CLEP U.S. History II
63 CLEP College Algebra
70 CLEP Analyzing and Interpreting Literature
68 DSST Technical Writing
72 CLEP U.S. History I
77 CLEP College Mathematics
470 DSST Statistics
53 CLEP College Composition
73 CLEP Biology
54 CLEP Chemistry
77 CLEP Information Systems and Computer Applications

I took U.S. History I & II and then American Government. All three were easy for me but I have a background in government so I had an advantage. I did see some overlap between all three. In American Government, I would pay close attention to U.S. Supreme Court cases. Especially, those landmark ones. I would also recommend to jump straight to the Civil War and Reconstruction dsst after you take both U.S. History exams. I made the mistake in not taking the Civil War dsst right afterwards.

Intro to Psych. is more theory based than what sociology is. So be careful on that one.

I concur, but if you only need one go for Psychology.

I'd go with Psych if you are comfortable in that area. For some reason I scored very low on US 2. It was the only test that I felt like I aced as I was taking it. I was totally confident I was getting my best score ever, but it ended up being my lowest score ever. Not sure what happened, but it did throw me for a loop. Yes, I studied HARD!

Many schools consider sociology and psychology in the same credit category. Usually on a degree plan you'd see something like "Social Science take Psyc, Soc, Eco..." Unless you need more SS credit, I'd try to get credit in another subject and hit psychology later for free electives. Of course it all depends on your degree plan.

Don't waste time by trying to save time. The only sure way to complete your degree is to knock out credits quickly and efficiently.

Don't let easiness bite you in the rear. Know your endgame (where you want to be) and plan backward from there. Your education is a means to an end.

Be honest professionally, socially and academically. There are people (especially little ones) who look up to you and they're going by your example.

Be proud. Whether you're an Engineer or Fast Food worker, there is honor and dignity in hard work.

Picking on people weaker than you only proves that you are a weak person.

Hey fanig422
I am planning on taking the US History I clep exam in two weeks and haven't started studying yet. The university I am in requires atleast a 57 on clep exams and I really need some advice on how to study for it in such little time. You mentioned you got a 72 in just one week and a half and I was wondering what your strategy of studying was. Thank you !!Smile
