Help for my TESU Capstone Please!
#11
Done - I did the survey yesterday, you'll know which one is me for sure (hopefully).
LOL, I left my mark on one of the questions where you had to "type" an answer.

Thank you all for your help with completing my capstone. I am definitely much closer to getting the data I need, I will let you all know how it goes. I absolutely could not have gotten enough results without the forum, so again- thank you!

Yes it is, it is the chapter 4 research/collecting results of the study portion. There is a chapter due bi-weekly, and each chapter is part of the larger paper as a whole. This is chapter is arguably the most important (data collection) so thank you for your help. Let me know if you have anymore questions (:

Yes, I am so glad that people on the forum were willing to help me out, my project is going much more smoothly since reaching out here. Thank you!

I started this journey in the summer of 2016.  I hoped to be done sooner, but I am still proud of the rate at which I have gotten my schooling done with respect to the many months of military training and deployments I have undergone.

Jb111 it's not a requirement to do a survey, but it's a good source of obtaining data and you can use social media, online forums, etc. to get a lot of data. However, a caution in regards to surveys, you need some really well designed questions to get accurate data. A lot of the students in my class who used surveys were disappointed with the results and a lot of them said it was either because they didn't get enough participation or they wished they had designed better questions. I wish I had including one in mine, but my topic really didn't fit a survey format.

Just wanted to stay thank you all so much again for your willingness to help out, I have yet to complete the final project fully but the research chapter went very well, thanks to all your responses! I was able to collect enough data to successfully (and more than adequately) complete the chapter and my study.

Sorry for the thread drift, OP glad you were able to get some usable results.

THIS. Man, this. I got a few hundred responses. It was a complete lesson in itself. Had NO clue the amount of engineering that goes into crafting a survey. I'm not sure any of those results are defendable, but I made that clear in the paper. It was a hot mess, to put it mildly. But it was my first academic survey, so I have to cut myself some slack.

I am working in my Capstone now and I can use any suggestions you may have on collecting data. My paper is on a police, social media, and building trust. I am examining community sentiment on transparency through communication and the role social media plays. I would love to collect a few hundred responses to a few brief questions.

Drafting the questions has proven difficult, but once that is set, I will then need to get it out to the masses. I am going to start with Nextdoor and a few other forums and of course reach out to my friends on Facebook and Twitter, but are there any other suggestions short of standing outside my local grocery store?

Beyond friends on Facebook, you might want to consider groups relevant to your topic. But if you choose, say the FB page for supporting your local police department, maybe try to balance it with a second group that focuses on corruption or negative aspects in some way. This would also allow you to talk about the differences of responses from the groups if you included a question on the survey about belonging to the groups. Also, you’d want to contact the group admin to make sure they are okay with you distributing the survey in the group if you go that route.
