Help With TESU BACS Degree Plan
#1
Just want to make sure I'm doing this right. I will be taking Data Structures and the Computer Science electives at TESU.

I need:
Oral Communication = Was planning on taking Introduction to Communication (COM101) at Straighterline
Diversity = Was planning on taking Introduction to Sociology (SOC101) at Straighterline
Civic Engagement = Was planning on taking American Government (POLS101) at Straighterline
Calculus II = Was planning on taking General Calculus II (MAT251) at Straighterline.
Introduction to Computer Science = This is where things are a bit murky. Will the DSST Computing and Information Technology fulfill this requirement? I don't love Saylor and I'd prefer to avoid it, but if need be, I can also take CS101: Introduction to Computer Science I from Saylor? Or Introduction to Programming in C++ from Straighterline?

Do I have everything down? Here is my evaluation. I also have CLEP credits that have not been evaluated yet: English Composition I, and 12 credits of French (FRE101, 102, 201, 202).

I think that's everything you need, why are you "over thinking" this with Straighterline? Is there a reason to think differently of taking courses for these offerings?
From a quick glance, I think you do have everything. Just make sure that you can only transfer a max of 90 credits from Straighterline, otherwise they won't count it.

Hi, thank you for your reply. I like SL's course format - Saylor just feels disorganized to me. I haven't really checked out the DSST options or TECEP yet.

DSST MIS and Cybersecurity may be options for UL. They show up in that area when I do a program eval. Not sure what that would do with your MIS class from the CC. Also research the CSU-Global options.

Which College Comp CLEP did you take exactly? And with or without Essay? That makes a difference.

Also, when did you take the French CLEP? That will make a difference in what TESU brings it in as.

I think I would just call TESU and ask if the SL or Saylor courses will work in that area. I don't think you have to spend a lot of time on the Saylor course, which is a Java course (from what I've read here). You may just be able to pass the exam without doing the course at all. It's worth $25 if they will take it.

Here are some CIS courses that might work in the degree, but you will want to determine if they'll fit in the AOS before taking them.

CLEP/Study.com
Info Systems & Computer Applications

DSST/Study.com
Intro to Computing

DSST
Management Info Systems (CIS-301)
Fundamentals of Cybersecurity (CIS-344)

CSU-Global CBE's
Info Systems Analysis & Design (CIS-320)
Cloud Computing & Big Data (CIS-499)
Ethical Hacking & Penetration Testing (???)

And since you already have a lot of LL course, you really need to do the UL ones once you figure out which ones will apply to the Comp Sci Requirement. So I didn't include the 2 SL courses.

The CSU Global CBE in System Analysis for $250 will get rid of another UL requirement. Along with DSST MIS and DSST cybersecurity will get you out of 9 credits UL in the AOS. The linear algebra course in your plan is LL, so you need two more UL courses. That means your group one needs five slots. Data structures can be taken at a community college since it is LL anyway. No need to spend the extra money at TESU. You will need three UL courses at TESU (2 AOS, 1 capstone). Any UL COS course plus the CIS database management course will work for the AOS. As long as you're willing to open that wallet for TESU, I think you got a good plan.

I did the college comp CLEP with essay, my community college accepted it as ENG101. For the French CLEP, I think 2012?

Those are some great suggestions, thank you! Now, I've maxed out the amount of credits I could transfer from my local community college, so for data structures, I guess I would have to find an out of state community college? Is there a good one (and cost effective) you guys can recommend?
