Literacy Instruction in the Elementary School

For folks who have taken this test, how did it fit into your degree plan at Excelsior, TESC, or COSC (and what was your major)?

It'll more than likely be an education course, thus, a free elective at TESC.

My degree plan was Natural Sciences and Mathematics BA Near the end I decided I wanted to teach and most of the Education courses fell in free Electives.It was 6 upper level credits that did go into area of study when I later looked into a Masters in teaching.

I'm not sure I understand. Were those graduate level courses? Are you talking about the area of study for the natural science/mathematics degree or the masters in teaching? If they fell into the area of study for the natural science and mathematics degree, then I'm assuming these were science education courses. Another member managed to get some VESi courses (continuing education courses for teachers that count as graduate credits) transcribed as UL, social science courses without the education prefix, but these courses covered social science topics. The closest related topic to literacy instruction would be humanities -- I guess, but I doubt it would be counted as that. If a course gets an education prefix, then it will most likely go into free electives.

Oops, forgot to mention I am referring to the 6-credit Excelsior exam.

I understood that part. I was asking if Lindagerr could clarify since Literacy Instruction in the Elementary school has nothing to do with natural science and mathematics.

@Sanantone. No at TESC it was originally put under free electives as a 100 level course, after I appealed the decision it was still put in free electives but as an upper level course. When I was applying to a masters program I was looking for not only a Masters in teaching but also a teaching certificate. For that reason they looked at the teaching courses I had taken (Children's Literature, Educational Psy. etc) and assigned them levels.

@ ladylearner Yes it was the Excelsior exam. I know others have taken it, but I don't know for which schools. As you can see from my reply to Sanantone TESC only gave free elective credit it was not assigned to any learning area.
