Help Deciding

Hi,I am new to the forum,and looking for some ideas.
I am wanting to go into a writing career,What do you all think would be the best way to good.I have thought about an English major with a writing minor.I have also thought of going for a liberal arts degree.I know writing books and getting them published does not require a degree,but it couldn't hurt having one.I feel I need to have a road map of some sort.Any help would be greatly appreciated.

English seems like the obvious choice as does liberal arts but I guess perhaps it depends upon what type or writing you want to do.

I'm also thinking of degrees in journalism, communications, public relations, professional writing, technical writing and even linguistics.

That probably doesn't help you much and if not, I'm sorry but it gives you some other options to consider depending upon what your intended career path is.
