Help!
#1
Hey all. I am having a not-so-great few weeks of it here. My last test was Financial Accounting about three weeks ago and I failed. Sad

I handled it pretty well, but I just wanted to take a few days off and not study. Well... a few days has turned into a few weeks. Tongue I finally did start studying a little bit earlier this week, but I have NO motivation at all.

I am SO close to being done! 8 tests, one TESC online course, and PreCalculus. (No idea how I'm getting that credit yet...)

I really want to be done by the end of May. A few months ago, I don't think it would have been a problem, but now I can't even find the motivation to study!

So I'm asking for help in a few areas. First, I'll take all the encouragement and advice you have to get started again. Smile

Second... any recommendations on how to study Financial Accounting? I failed the DANTES version, so thankfully I can still take the CLEP. But Accounting is not my thing. Tongue

Third... I have to take PreCalc for my degree. I spent several weeks studying and still majorly failed all the practice exams. I asked my TESC advisor about using ALEKS PreCalc and he said they couldn't pre-approve that course. I don't want to take a class, which will tie me up for another three months, but I don't think I can pass the CLEP. This just isn't my thing either.

The good news... after I finish Accounting, PreCalc and two Econ tests, all I have left is HISTORY!!! I love history and can't wait to get to those, but I want to be DONE with these other things.

Anyway... there's my little rant. Thanks in advance for any advice and encouragement. Smile

I know what you mean about motivation. I was on a role, then I got sick and had to cancel my exam for last week, then this week my hubby and kids have been home for vacation/spring break so we have been doing the home improvement thing. I moved my exam to next Friday, but I worry about getting back in the saddle. I'm focusing on the end and keep dangling that carrot in front of me...or in my case a chocolate bar! I promise myself little rewards after each success. Today is my graduation day and I have promised myself a massage and pedicure...I understand that might not be your cup of tea! LOL! If you need a day to refocus and look at what you have done and how close you are take it and don't feel guilty. I think that is biggest roadblock, making yourself feel guilty will do more harm than taking a day off.

Now as for Pre-Calc, first of all my sympathy that you have to take it, but here is what I'm doing for Stats and it might be something for you to try. I enrolled with ALEKS in Intro to Stats I'm going to use my free month to see how far I get. I did real well last week, but not so much this week. I figured I would invest 2 months (1 free, 1 Pd) and see if I can get a pass, then have it transferred to EC. If they don't take it for some reason then I figured I would be much better prepared to try and test out of it. I don't know if you might learn enough to test out of the Calculus exam or not. You only need enough to pass! It may be a way to try to get it done faster, if not then you sit through a class. You may be able to find an online class that will allow you to progress at your pass so you could finish faster. I thought TESC accepted ALEKS if you sent an ACE transcript. Maybe they can't "officially" endorse or recommend ALEKS, but they accept if you send the transcript. I wouldn't expect them to pre-approve it, but they should have to accept it on an ACE transcript. Maybe someone here who has had an ALEKS course accepted at TESC can better address that question.

Keep your chin up and keep chasing the carrot. Your reward will be received shortly! Don't be so hard on yourself if you need to take a break or slow down a little. That is ok too! We are after all only human!

Good Luck!

Financial accounting? Is it the same as Accounting I and II or something different. If it is the same as accounting I and II, how about straighterline classes. I took two and passed them quickly. For $99.00 you can't beat that, you can work at your own pace. I don't think that Financial accounting is the same, but thought I'd throw that out to you.

Hang in there, you will work through this. Best of luck.
