Has anyone taken the biology lab through SL? I was wondering if it's necessary to actually purchase the LAB kit? Are there tools online that will help with the Labs?

I just finished it today. The lab kit is beyond overpriced, you should be able to buy everything at walmart/amazon. Items were something along the lines of: clear jello, red and white beads, vinegar, baking soda, some aqua plant seeds, beakers and some random safety equipment. It was an easy course, let me know if you have any more questions!

I just finished it...and am still seething about the lab kit. Half of the labs don't require ANY special equipment (graph paper and markers), the ones that do require test tubes, beakers, beads etc., still don't use one quarter of what is contained in the kit.
The part that makes me the maddest is that when I tried to order the kit through the link offered by SL, it would not work (after repeated tries over several days). so I went to the lab company and ordered what appeared to be the right kit #1399, right price $98.00, right class, etc. Turns out there is a SL#1399 which is NOT listed on their order form, and supposedly contains exactly what is needed for Straighterline. My kit- the basic 1399 did not have enough sodium bicarb (no big deal...baking soda anyone?) or phenol red solution (available pool supplies.) IMHO they should have COMPLETELY different stock numbers if it actually makes a difference. End result...I got a 96. I bluffed and took some educated guesses and managed without the missing supplies. Now I have a big box of mad scientist supplies for the granddaughters.

I took the Bio lab in 2013. The lab kit was way overpriced and I think I could have purchased most of the supplies somewhere else and saved a lot of money (I didn't want to take the chance though). Last year I was told they were planning on redesigning it (and maybe going with a different supplier) so I don't know if my lab experience will differ from someone who took it recently but that's my two cents.

Are there any multiple choice tests (like most of Straighterline) in the lab or is it all hands on "lab" work?
How is it graded? Thanks

@TinHead, there are 7 multiple choice quizzes along with the hands on lab. The lab Kit is a joke. I used 2 beakers with a stand, 3 petrie dishes, radish seeds vinegar, baking soda solution, colored beads, and ph measuring sticks. All of this could have been purchased cheaper separately.

Is there / do you need a textbook for the tests?

A CD ROM comes with the lab kit, but I didn't look at it. There are lessons on the moodle. It was enough for me to score a 96 on the course.
