Has Anyone done the BS or BA in Cybersecurity at COSC?
#1
I'm wondering if anyone has done the BA or BS in Cybersecurity at COSC and how much of the degree can be fulfilled with DSST / CLEP / ALEKS / Straighterline and FEMA's? My son would be transferring in some CC credits from his certificates in Information System Security and Network Security. He also has his A+ certification along with some FEMA's and TEEX courses. He also works in IT. His love is Cybersecurity so this degree looks perfect for him, but he really wants to be able to do most of his credits via testing out with very few actual courses if possible. His employer will pay for some courses and certifications. He's going to be taking his Security+ exam shortly, so hopefully, COSC will take some of his certifications as well.

Any info is greatly appreciated!

I received 4 credits for my A+ and Sec+.

COMPTIA 02 Security+ (ITE435) P 2.00 (TR) UD
COMPTIA 01 A+ (ITE865) P 2.00 (TR)

I am interested in this degree as well, I went ahead and emailed an advisor there to see how my current credits would transferr (including TEEX Cybersec for IT Pros) and how Intro to Computing DSST, Management Information Systems DSST, and Fundamentals of Cyber Security DSST would be applied. I'll respond back here with what I find.

It appears this program is so new, there isn't a lot of concrete information. The following quoted text is from a COSC Admissions Counselor, not an academic advisor, which I guess you can't communicate directly with them until you fully enroll.

COSC FACULTY Wrote:I clarified the language of the ITE 102 course. It is a recommended pre-requisite for the ITE 145 course. It is required for all students in the Cyber Security major, but not a strict pre-requisite if you come to the program with an IT background. Third, we are accepting the new DSST exam Intro to Cyber Security. It can be used as an upper level elective in the major in place of the CSS 346 course. Finally, the CompTIA certificates are not likely to have a home in the major.

Still not sure about the ITE 102 Introduction to Computer Science course, and whether you have to take it if you have a background in computers, or what you could use to take its place. I know you cant use the MIS DSST though.

COSC FACULTY Wrote:The CompTIA certs are only 2 credits and not sure the content aligns with one of the majors required courses. You may opt to further explore down the road. I don’t believe the MIS exam is considered to be equivalent to the ITE 102 course and either way, it will be considered lower level.

Not sure if anyone is still interested but I received another update to my advising worksheet yesterday for the cyber security major.

TEEX Cyber Security for IT Professionals got me credit for ITE 145: Fundamentals of Information Systems Security, but only 2cr not 3cr
Security+ was awarded credit for CSS 435: Fundamentals of Network Security (previously only awarded as ITE 435, which isn't a degree requirement for Cyber Sec.) again 2cr not 3.
