Has Anyone Ever Failed A Capstone Course?
#41
corpsole2 Wrote:Well, I finally got back the grade for the completed capstone, and I got a 93. What brought the score down was I didn't have the references formatted properly.

For the cumulative score, I finish the course with 94%. From the GPA scale on TESC's site, that is high enough to preserve 4.0!

Now I just have to have her update the college, and I should be all done with the B.A. ! :-)

It honestly gives me a lot of encouragement re-reading this thread.

A month ago you started this thread with fears of failure, and an average in the 30s. Now you are finished with an A average! For someone who is hating this course and struggling it is great motivation.

Well, it will honestly challenge you, but it will also be fairly easy. It is tough to explain to those who haven't finished it.

Allow yourself plenty of time to do the Literature Review and setting up the Methodology, since those set up Chapter Five. The mentor usually allows you much leeway in Chapter Five to 'interpret' the results, and by the time you start it, you will find the process easier.

It's funny, but I still have to pinch myself to remember that I'm done with it and with my degree. I catch myself logging into Moodle to check on assignments, or just to check and see if the 94% was not a fluke and that it's still there.

You'll do fine. Power through it, and do the best you can.

Sorry to be so late the the thread but I'm in the capstone class now coming to the end of first week and I'm lost. I have started my Introduction, but I don't know if I'm doing right or wrong? I'm worried I could fail. Did anybody else have a rough start?
#47
I think everyone has a rough start if they are new to academic writing. What I did was to first get my topic "approved" by the mentor and then it's simply follow the formatting directly from the syllabus.

IMO, you can finish the course with a passing grade if you: put forth the effort, make sure you format the paper correctly, and don't plagiarize.

At COSC, the instructor had the ability to grant an additional 2 weeks to a student if the extra time was needed for the student to complete their project. There were several students in my course who would have definitely failed if this policy hadn't been in place (and for all I know, some of them may have failed).

I wonder if TESC has a similar policy.

Hey Ironheadjack, I'm confused as to when I write what I want say and when to quote? I think my professor approved my topic. My Intro is due in a week. I have written it already, but I'm afraid it could be way off course.

Your wording is a little confusing...are you asking when to use original content and quoted material?

If so, for me chapter 2 the literature review was where I used a lot of directly quoted material. I sprinkled some quotes in the other chapters, but the majority was paraphrased or original content.
